Initial Operation
Observe correct mains voltage: The voltage of
the power source must agree with the voltage
specified on the nameplate of the machine.
Equipment marked with 230 V can also be con-
nected to 220 V.
Switching On and Off
For starting operation of the machine, actuate
the safety switch against starting 1 first, and then
press and hold the On/Off switch 2 afterwards.
To switch off the machine, release the On/Off
switch 2.
For safety reasons the On /Off switch of
the machine cannot be locked; it must
remain pressed during the entire opera-
tion.
Speed Preselection (GKS 54 CE)
With the adjustment knob 4, the speed can be
continuously selected. The required speed is de-
pendent on the saw blade used and the material
to be worked (see Saw Blade Table).
Constant Electronic Control
(GKS 54 CE)
The constant electronics ensures that the ma-
chine speed is the same regardless of the load
conditions; this ensures uniform work advancing
and a smooth cutting pattern.
Temperature Dependent Overload
Protection (GKS 54 CE)
When the machine is overloaded while sawing,
the motor stops and starts again only when the
advancing rate is reduced. For machines that
have become warm during operation, the temper-
ature dependent overload protection will react
earlier. The reaction time will be dependent on
the initial temperature of the machine.
Reduced Starting Current (GKS 54 CE)
Due to the gradual, smooth starting procedure of
the machine, a 13 A fuse is sufficient.

Changing the Tool
Before any work on the machine itself, pull
the mains plug.
Wear protective gloves.
The saw blades used must correspond to
the characteristic data in these operating
instructions.
Use only saw blades with an allowable
speed matching at least the no-load speed
of the machine.
Removing (see figure
Press spindle lock 10 and keep depressed.
The spindle lock 10 may be actuated only
when the saw blade is at a standstill.
Unscrew clamping bolt 21 with the Allen key 9.
Remove clamping flange 20.
Tilt back the retracting blade guard 16 and hold
firmly.
Remove the saw blade.
Mounting (see figure
Clean the saw blade and all the clamping parts to
be assembled.
Tilt back the retracting blade guard 16 and hold
firmly.
Place the saw blade onto the mounting flange 17.
Assemble the clamping bolt 21 with the washer
and assemble the clamping flange 20.
Tighten the clamping bolt 21 with the Allen key 9.
Tightening torque: 6 – 9 Nm; equivalent to hand-
1
tight plus
/
turn.
4
Take care that the mounting positions of
the mounting flange 17 and clamping
flange 20 are correct.
When mounting: Ensure that the cutting direction
of the teeth (direction of arrow on saw blade) and
the direction-of-rotation arrow on the blade guard
match.
