Climbing by inexperienced persons or routes which challenge the
capabilities of individual climbers should be supported by
mountaineering rope techniques [7]. When resting, use a separate
secure attachment, e.g. sling strap with carabiner. Use a cow hitch
to secure the sling strap to the rope eyelet on your harness and to
the carabiner attached to the cable. Now you can put weight on the
connection in a slow and controlled manner [8]. Never tie up the
flexarms [9]. Check the shock absorber. If little red flags can be
seen, the shock absorber has been tripped and you should not
climb [10].
Rental
The user shall be informed of the complete function of the via
ferrata set according to the user manual. The inspection of the via
ferrata set and the via ferrata carabiner has to be checked for
function and condition, as well as the faultless condition of all
textile elements (shock absorber, seams, flexible legs) before
handing it out. If there is any doubt about the status of a part of the
set, the set cannot be handed out.
Cleaning
Wash dirty textile products in lukewarm water using a soft brush
(where necessary use a neutral detergent). Rinse well with clean
water. Dry slowly at room temperature – never in a tumble dryer or
on a radiator.
Transport
Carry in a tool bag or special storage or transport container. These
measures protect the product from direct sunlight, chemicals, dirt
and mechanical damage.
Storage
Store the product in a cool and dry place, protected from sunlight,
outside its transport container and free of mechanical pressure,
crushing or pulling forces.
Caution! Avoid contact with chemicals (oils, battery acid, etc.)!
Service life
The product's lifespan is essentially dependent on the way it is
used and the frequency, as well as external factors. Products made
of synthetic fibres undergo a certain amount of ageing even if not
used, depending particularly on the intensity of UV radiation and
climatic factors. Used occasionally (1 - 2 times a month), the life
span is up to 5 years. Used regularly (weekly), the life span is up to
3 years. When used professionally / commercially (almost daily
rental), the life span is up to one year. Even in optimal storage
conditions and even if not used, the product should be discarded
after 10 years.
