COMBINED PARALLEL AND BEVEL FENCE
GUIDE
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged from the power supply
before making adjustments, installing or removing
blades.
1. Fit the fence guide (14) to the base by screwing the
knobs (7) into the fixing points (8). (Fig. 17)
2. Loosen the two wing nuts and set the angle of the
fence if you intend to use it as a guide for making
bevel cuts. (Fig.18)
3. When set at right angle to the planer base, the fence
can be used as a parallel fence guide. (Fig.19)
NOTE: The fence can be fitted to either side of the base.
NOTE: The angle graduations marked on the fence are
for indicative purposes only. For accurate bevel cutting it
is necessary to measure the angle of the fence, make a
trial cut and adjust if necessary.
SHAVINGS EXTRACTION
1. The dust/chip extraction port (6) allows connection
to a vacuum dust extraction system.
2. Using the dust extraction adapter (18) permits a dust
extraction system to be connected to the dust ex-
traction port (6).
3. To fit the adapter (18) insert it into the port (6) and
twist it clockwise until it locks into position. (Fig. 20)
The adapter teeth must coincide with the grooves in
the dust extraction port.
DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT
WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged from the power supply
before making adjustments or installing or removing
blades.
1. To replace the drive belt first take out the three
cross-head screws that secure the drive belt cover
(17) on the left-hand side of the planer as viewed
from the rear (Fig. 21).
2. Remove the damaged belt pulling it sideways off the
top pulley and turning the bottom pulley by hand.
Use a soft brush to clean the pulleys and the sur-
rounding area.
NOTE: Wear eye protection when cleaning out the pul-
ley area.
3. With the six continuous "V" profiles on the inside,
place the new belt over the bottom pulley. Half fit the
other end of the belt on the top pulley then roll the
belt in place whilst turning the pulley.
4. Check that the belt runs evenly by manually turning
the belt.
5. Replace the cover and the three fixing screws en-
suring that the longer screw is located in the hole at
the front of the cover.
6. Plug the machine, switch it on and run the planer for

Maintenance

WARNING: Always ensure that the tool is
switched off and unplugged before attempting to per-
form any inspections or maintenance.
Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight. They
may vibrate loose over time. Should any of the screws be
loose, retighten it immediately to avoid hazards.
Re-lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals.
GENERAL INSPECTION
When the carbon brushes are worn out, both brushes
must be replaced simultaneously with genuine brushes
at SPARKY service centre for warranty and post-war-
ranty service.
If the replacement of the supply cord is necessary, this
has to be done by the manufacturer or his agent in order
to avoid a safety hazard.
CLEANING
For safe operation always keep the machine and its ven-
tilation slots clean.
Regularly check to see if any dust or foreign matter has
entered the grills near the motor and around the switch-
es. Use a soft brush to remove any accumulated dust.
Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes whilst cleaning.
If the body of the tool needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft
damp cloth. A mild detergent can be used.
WARNING: Never use alcohol, petrol or other
cleaning agent. Never use caustic agents to clean
plastic parts.
WARNING: Water must never come into con-
tact with the tool.
IMPORTANT! To assure product safety and reliability,
repairs, maintenance and adjustment (including brush
inspection and replacement) should be performed by
certified service centres or other qualified service or-
ganisations, always using genuine replacement parts.
