Safety notes

Installation and startup and startup may only be
performed by trained specialists with basic electrical
knowledge.
Qualified personnel are those who can recognize
possible hazards and institute the appropriate safety
measures due to their professional training, knowledge,
and experience as well as their understanding of the
relevant regulations pertaining to the work to be done.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety
regulations are observed. In particular, the operator must
take steps to ensure that a defect in the measuring system
will not result in hazards to persons or equipment.
If defects and unresolvable faults occur in the temperature
sensor, take it out of service and secure against
unauthorized use.
The temperature sensor must be powered by a power-
limited source per 9.3 of UL/EN/IEC 61010-1 or LPS per
UL/EN/IEC 60950-1 or Class 2 per UL1310/UL1585
(NEC or CEC).
The power supply must be suitable for operation above
2000 m in case the temperature sensor is used at
elevations above this altitude.
General safety notes
Protection from electrostatic discharge (ESD) is required!
Proper use of grounded surfaces and personal arm bands
is required when working with exposed circuits (circuit
boards) to prevent damage to sensitive electronic
components from electrostatic discharge.
When hazardous measuring material such as oxygen,
acetylene, flammable or toxic materials, as well as
refrigeration equipment, compressors etc. are present the
relevant regulations must be observed above and beyond
all general rules.
When faults occur, aggressive media having high
temperature and under high pressure may be present on
the temperature sensor.
Measuring material remnants in disassembled devices may
result in a hazard to personnel, the environment and
equipment. Take sufficient precautions!
At high media or ambient temperatures suitable means
must be provided to ensure that the housing temperature
of the device in continuous operation does not exceed
80 °C (temperature measured at the hex of the process
connection).

Explanation of the warnings
Always observe the warnings in these instructions and the
measures described to avoid hazards.
The warnings used here contain various signal words and
are structured as follows:
SIGNAL WORD
Hazard type and source
Consequences if not complied with
► Measures to avoid hazards
The individual signal words mean:
NOTICE
Identifies a hazard that could damage or destroy the
product.
CAUTION
The general warning symbol together with the signal
word CAUTION indicates a danger which can lead to
slight or moderate injury.
WARNING
The general warning symbol together with the signal
word WARNING indicates a danger which can lead to
severe injury or death.
