Maintenance and care

Guide bar replacement
H: Top of Bar
I: Rotational direction of
chain
Filing saw chain
J: Bottom of bar
Using a lever-type grease gun, pump lithium-base grease (about
10 grams) into the grease fitting (D) until you see old grease be-
ing purged from the gear case, which can be seen in the outer
tube cavity. Clean up excess grease, then reassemble the gear
case onto the outer tube.
1.
Remove nut (A) and turn saw chain tensioning screw (B) an-
ticlockwise to release tension.
2.
Remove guide bar cover (C).
3.
Remove guide bar and saw chain from gear case and
sprocket.
4.
Remove saw chain from guide bar and check guide bar for
damage and excessive or uneven wear. Replace guide bar
if necessary.
5.
Place the guide bar (D) over the guide bar adjustment stud
(E) on the cutting assembly. Align the chain tensioning pin
(F) with the hole (G) in the guide bar.
IMPORTANT
 Failure to align the guide bar and chain tensioning pin can
cause serious damage to the sprocket cover, guide bar,
chain tensioning pin, and cutting assembly.
6.
Install the chain loop over the drive links within the guide bar
groove, and then align the chain over the drive sprocket.
Make sure the cutters are properly oriented as shown in this
figure. If the chain installation is difficult or if the chain ap-
pears too tight, refer to the section Saw chain tension adjust-
ment.
7.
Install the sprocket cover over the bar stud. Using finger-
pressure only, install the sprocket cover nut.
 When you use this product under low temperature after
pumping grease, it may be difficult to start it. In this case,
condition it to normal temperature and conduct a test run
sufficiently before use.
IMPORTANT
 Dull or damaged cutters will result in poor cutting perfor-
mance, increased vibration, and premature saw chain fail-
ure.
1.
Set round file (A) in cutter at 30° angle. One fifth (1/5) of the
file should be exposed above top cutter edge.
2.
Keep file horizontal in cutter and file in one direction.
3.
File until cutter top and side bevel edges are sharp without
nicks.
4.
Place depth gauge tool (B) firmly on top of cutter with
0.65 mm slot and end against front cutter raker. File cutter
raker with flat fIle until flush with top of depth gauge.
