6. Getting started
• Place the base station and the transmitter on a table at a distance of about 1.5 meters from each
other. Avoid being close to possible sources of interference such as electronic devices and radio
equipment.
6.1 Inserting the batteries in the base station and the outdoor transmitter
• Slide down the battery compartment lid of the transmitter.
• Insert two new batteries 1,5 V AAA into the outdoor transmitter's battery compartment. Make
sure the polarity is correct.
• Open the battery compartment of the base station.
• Insert the two batteries 1,5 V AAA into the battery compartment of the base station. Make sure
the polarity is correct.
6.2 Reception of outdoor temperature
• After the batteries are inserted the outdoor temperature will be transmitted automatically to the
base station. "- -" flashes on the display.
• As soon as the base station receives the outdoor temperature, the value is permanently shown.
• If the reception of outdoor temperature fails, "- -" appears on the display. Check the batteries
and try it again. Check if there is any source of interference.
• You can also start the initialization manually. Press and hold the SYNC button on the base sta-
tion for two seconds. Use a pin to press the SYNC button in the battery compartment of the
transmitter at the same time.

• When the outdoor temperature was already received before, press and hold the DOWN button
for 3 seconds.
• After a successful installation of the outdoor transmitter and the base station, close the battery
compartments carefully.
6.3 Reception of the DCF frequency signal
• After the reception of the outdoor temperature, the clock will now scan the DCF frequency sig-
nal for 3-5 minutes and the DCF symbol flashes on the display.
• When the time code is successfully received after a few minutes, the radio-controlled time, the
date and the DCF symbol will be shown steadily on the display.
• The clock automatically scans the time signal at 0:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 12:00 a.m. every day to
maintain accurate timing.
• Press the UP button for 2 seconds to deactivate the DCF time reception. The reception symbol
disappears.
• To reactivate press and hold the UP button again for 2 seconds.
• The DCF reception symbol will be flashing.
• There are four different reception symbols:
no reception/time is set manually
flashing - reception is active
Weak signal
Reception is very good
6.4 Radio-controlled time reception
The time base for the radio-controlled time is a caesium atomic clock operated by the Physikalisch
Technische Bundesanstalt based in Braunschweig (Brunswick), Germany. It has a time deviation of
less than one second in one million years. The time is coded and transmitted from Mainflingen
near Frankfurt via the frequency signal DCF-77 (77.5 kHz) and has a transmitting range of approxi-
mately 1,500 km. Your radio clock receives the signal, converts it and always shows the exact
time. The adjustment to Daylight Saving Time (summer/winter time) is automatic. In Daylight Sav-
ing Time "S" is shown on the display. The reception quality depends mainly on geographic loca-
tion. Normally there should be no reception problems within a 1,500 km radius around Frankfurt.
