operAtion - using for the first time
Clean the grill plates before using the appliance for the first time (see Cleaning and maintenance). The
appliance may emit a little smoke and a characteristic smell when you switch it on for the first time. This is
normal, and both will stop quickly. Make sure the appliance has sufficient ventilation. During use the heating
element will switch in and out to keep the temperature of the grill plates constant. Consequently the indicator
light will also occasionally be illuminated.
K eep house birds away from the appliance when it is in use; fumes released from the non-stick coating
when the grill plate is hot can cause stress to birds.
operAtion - preheating

T he temperature for both grill plates (1) can be set separately. This way, you can grill foods with
different types of preparation on separate temperatures, ensuring they can served simultaneously.
On the side of the button you will find a temperature indication (settings 1 through 6) which you can
use to set the temperature of the gril lplates in relation to each other.

P lease note that both grill plates have their own indicator light (4). Set the desired temperature for
both plates and notice both indicator lights.
1. Place the closed appliance on a level and heat-resistant surface.
2. A djust the thermostat dials (3) to the required setting.
3. Lift the top plate and grease the grill plates with a little oil. Lower the top plate.
4. Put the plug (7) into the wall socket. The indicator lights will now illuminate.
5. A fter waiting a few minutes check whether the indicator lights are extinguished. Once the indicator lights
have extinguished the appliance is ready for use.
operAtion - preheating (grilled cheese) sandwiches
1. Allow the appliance to preheat (see Preheating).
2. Raise the top plate to the vertical position.
3. Lay the sandwiches on the grill plate.
4. Lower the top plate.
5. Toast the sandwiches until they are golden brown.
6. Lift the top plate.
7. R emove the sandwiches from the grill plate and place them on a plate. Take care! The sandwiches are
hot.
