4. Now mount the casing bottom, use the enclosed fixing
material.
5. Then connect the enclosed 9 V bloc battery to the bat-
tery clip and insert the battery in the battery compart-
ment.
6. Now re-insert the appliance in the casing (please note
to place the holding clips of the casing bottom into the
openings provided for this purpose) and tighten it
clockwise.
Caution! The system is provided with a safety feature
which prevents the smoke detector from fixing at the
rear wall of the casing unless a battery is inserted. If the
smoke detector does not fit in the holding clips, please
make sure to have installed the battery correctly and
inserted in the battery compartment.
Self test function
This function allows to check SD 5Y for proper functio-
ning at regular intervals. Press the test button for
approx. 4 s until the alarm sounds. The self test program
is activated when pressing the test button. The alarm
indicates that the electronic circuit (hooter and battery)
function properly. Please carry out the self test function
once a week for safety reasons in order to ensure proper
functioning. If no alarm is given, the reason is in most
cases a discharged battery. In this case please replace
the battery (refer to "6. Battery replacement").
Battery warning system
Under normal circumstances the battery is ready for ser-
vice for at least 5 years. The SD 5Y smoke detector is
provided with a battery warning system. If the battery
becomes weaker, the appliance generates a warning
sound at intervals of 30-40 s. This warningsound will be
given for at least 30 days. s soon as you can hear this
sound, please replace the battery immediately.

Battery replacement

To replace a discharged battery unscrew the smoke
detector from the casing bottom anticlockwise. Remove
the discharged 9 V bloc battery and connect a new one
at the battery clip. Now mount the appliance at the
casing bottom (please note to place the holding clips of
the casing bottom into the openings provided for this
purpose) and re-tighten the casing bottom clock-wise.
