Alcoholblendedfuels (calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol)
can attractmoisturewhich leadsto separation and formationof acids
duringstorage.Acidic gascan damagethe fuel systemof an engine
whilein storage.
Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbe emptiedbefore
storagefor 30 days or longer.Drainthe gas tank, startthe engine
and let it run untilthe fuel linesand carburetor are empty.Use
freshfuel next season.See STORAGE Instructions for additional
information.
Neveruseengine or carburetorcleanerproductsin the fuel tank or
permanentdamagemayoccur.
NOTE:Checkthe fuel levelperiodically to avoid runningout of gaso-
line whileoperatingthe chippershredder. If the unit runsout of gas as
itischipping,itmay be necessaryto unclogthe dischargeareabefore
itcan be restarted.Referto SERVICEAND MAINTENANCE section.
Althoughmulti-viscosity oils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting
incold weather, they will result inincreasedoil consumption when
usedabove32°E Checkyourengine oil level morefrequentlyto avoid
possibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.
1.
Checkthe oil levelby removingthe oil fill plug and lookinginto
theoil fill hole.Oil shouldbe visibleup to thethreadsof theoil fill
plug, almostto the pointof overflowing. F ill if necessary.Capac-
ity is approximately 28 oz. Overfillingcancause a hazardous
situation,be sureto wipeup anyspilledor excessoil.
2.
Replaceoil fill plug and tighten.
3.
Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningtheenginewith too little oil can
result in permanentenginedamage.
Gasoline
Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand the vaporsare explosive.Neverfuel machineindoors
or whilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,
pipes,and othersourcesof ignition.
1.
Removefuel cap from thefuel tank.
2.
Makesurethe containerfrom which youwill pour thegasolineis
cleanand freefrom rust or foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline
that may be stale from long periodsof storagein its container.
Gasolinethat hasbeen sittingfor anyperiod longerthanfour
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.
3.
Fillfuel tank with clean,fresh,unleadedregulargasolineonly. Do
not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL. R eplacefuelcap.
TO START ENGINE
1.
Attach sparkplug wireand rubberbootto spark plug.
2.
Filltank to no morethan 1/2 inchbelowbottomof filler neck to
providespacefor fuel expansion.
3.
Turnthe fuel shut-offvalve to the ONposition.
4.
Movethechoke leveron the engineto CHOKEI'_1 position.(A
warm enginemay not requirechoking.)See Figure10.
