Using terminals
Connecting the battery without removing it from its installation site
➤ Determine which battery connection is connected to the chassis.
CAUTION!
!
Do not connect the terminals of the compact charger to the starter,
the petrol supply lines or to the metal cladding.
➤ If the negative terminal is connected to the chassis (standard on most
vehicles), connect the terminals as follows:
– Connect the red terminal of the compact charger to the positive termi-
nal of the battery.
– Connect the black terminal of the compact charger to the chassis, e.g.
the engine block.
➤ If the positive terminal is connected to the chassis, connect the termi-
nals as follows:
– Connect the black terminal of the compact charger to the negative ter-
minal of the battery.
– Connect the red terminal of the compact charger to the chassis, e.g.
the engine block.
➤ Connect the cable to the terminals (fig. 1 5, page 3) using the adapter
plug (fig. 1 3, page 3) of the compact charger.
➤ Charge the battery as described in "Charging a battery" on page 28.
Connecting batteries that are not installed in vehicles
➤ Connect the red terminal (fig. 2 3, page 3) of the compact charger to the
positive terminal of the battery (fig. 2 4, page 3).
The positive terminal can usually be distinguished from the negative ter-
minal by the larger diameter of its connection. In addition, red cables are
used for the connection to positive terminals in most vehicles.
➤ Connect the black terminal (fig. 2 2, page 3) of the compact charger to
the negative terminal of the battery (fig. 2 4, page 3).
NOTE
I
If the red "Reverse Connection" LED (fig. 1 7, page 3) glows you
have reversed the polarity.
Disconnect the battery from the compact charger immediately and
connect the cables with the correct polarity.
