Function Test Before System Evacuation
1. Hook-up the digital vacuum gauge
directly to your vacuum pump.
Best results are achieved by using a
single piece of copper braised
in-between two flare nuts. (As pictured
REFCO part no. 4687052)
However, you can also use a single
charging hose.
2. Turn on the REF-VAC and allow 5
seconds to self-calibrate.
3. Select
desired
measure.
4. Turn on the vacuum pump, (close
ballast valve if present) and observe
the digital vacuum gauge display.
5. With a properly operating vacuum
pump, it should pull down to a vacuum of less than 500 microns in less
than 60 seconds.
This function test serves two purposes:
a. It shows that your digital vacuum gauge is working properly and it will
indicate a vacuum once your vacuum level goes below 18'000 Microns.
b. It shows that your vacuum pump is also working properly and how deep
it is capable of pulling a vacuum to.
If you cannot pull a deep vacuum below 500 Microns in 60 seconds or less, try
changing your vacuum pump oil and re-test.
If you still cannot pull a vacuum below 500 Microns check and re-tighten your
connections.
Again, a solid piece of copper works best for this function test.
