PROBLEMS IN STARTING. If the tool connected to the compressed air supply should not turn on, make sure the
supply lever is not blocked, place a few drops of naphtha in the connection to the air supply and try once again to start
the tool.
DECREASED POWER. Check that the air inlet hole is not obstructed. Check that the air exhaust silencer is not
obstructed. Change damaged or inefficient components.
Do not remove the exhaust silencer from the tool. Removing the silencer will considerably increase noise emissions
from the tool.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.
WARNING
Operator safety precautions:
•
Ensure that the working area is well lit.
•
Ensure that the chisel tool is correctly inserted in its seat. Check that the retaining spring is fitted.
•
Before you start any repair or maintenance work on the tool, switch off the compressed air supply.
•
Keep the work area clean, tidy and free of obstructions.
•
Wear suitable PPE and overalls. Do not wear loose dangling clothing or items of personal jewellery which
might become trapped in moving parts.
•
If you have long hair, wear a hairnet or hat.
•
Use appropriate hearing protection during noisy work. Use ear protectors.
•
Wherever possible use clamps, vices and other devices to hold the workpiece firmly in position.
•
Always maintain a firm grip on the hammer pistol grip.
•
When you are using the tool, use a firm support of some type which will stop you from overbalancing and
which will help you counteract the action of the hammer. Use gloves. Failure to use gloves can cause vibration
injuries.
•
Ober declines all liability for damage or injury caused by using unsuitable cutting fluids or fluids which produce
toxic fumes.
NOTE
•
Do not point the hammer at persons or animals.
•
Do not touch moving parts while they are operating.
•
If the hammer receives a hard impact or is dropped, check the hammer body for damage. Check that the
moving parts are not damaged. Check that moving parts operate smoothly. If you notice cracks or any other
damage which might effect tool efficiency, do not use the tool.
•
Stop using the tool immediately if you notice abnormal vibrations or noise, if hammer operation is faulty or if the
chisel tool jams during operation. Contact an authorised service centre for advice.
•
HAZARD WARNING. Unexpected tool movements or breakage of the insert can cause injuries to the lower
limbs.

RESIDUAL RISKS

•
The MAC33 and MAC22 hammers are fitted with reciprocating tools. This reciprocating motion can lead to
fatigue failure of the retaining edge. In the event of failure there is a residual risk that the tool will be projected
out from the hammer causing damage to the hammer and injury to persons in the vicinity. This risk is present if
the operator fails to refit the retaining spring after changing the tool.
•
Burns hazard. Hammer surface become hot during operation. Accidental contact with the hot surfaces
can cause burns. Always wear suitable PPE such as heavy duty gloves.
Other possible hazards:
•
Eye injuries. During chipping and demolition work, chips can be projected outwards. Wear appropriate
personal protective equipment (PPE).
•
Inhalation of oil spray. This risk is present where the compressed air is overlubricated and where the air
exhaust silencer has been removed.
•
Harmful dusts. Some materials produce dusts which are harmful to health.
• Whiplash of the compressed air hose (see the section "POWER SUPPLY" provided by the user).
N.B. The MAC33 and MAC22 hammers are labelled in accordance with the Italian Standard UNI 792-4. Labels
include the 'Read the manual' label reminding users to read the Use and Maintenance manual before starting
work with the tool.
