EDITION FEB 2017
STICKF ST
When you have finished using the gun:
1.
Switch off and disconnect the gun from the power supply.
2.
Do not remove the unused glue stick from the gun as this
may damage the feed mechanism and will invalidate the
warranty. The adhesive can be stored indefinitely in the
unheated gun and re-melted by reheating the gun the next
time it is required.
3.
Ensure the stand (if supplied separately) is securely
attached to the gun as per the instructions.
4.
Place the gun in an upright position on a flat, stable surface.
5.
Ensure the hot nozzle cannot cause damage to
surrounding areas.
6.
Ensure the gun is completely cool before placing it in
confined spaces
7.
Do not wrap the power cable around the gun unless the
gun is completely cool.
Adhesive may occasionally drip from the heated gun; this is
normal and due to expansion of the adhesive. The Stickfast™
HGS11 Heat Resistant Mat protects the work area and glue
droplets are easily removed when set.
Some materials are heat sensitive and can be damaged by hot
glue. Wherever possible test a piece of scrap material or a
hidden portion of the object before commencing production.
Tips on use
The following information may be helpful concerning the use
of Stickfast™ glue guns and hot melt adhesives.
1.
Parts to be bonded should be pressed together within 15-20
seconds of application, as normal working time for hot melts
is between 15 and 35 seconds, and 90% maximum bond
strength is reached in 2 minutes.
2.
Working time can be extended and reduced by adjusting the
size of the glue deposits (larger deposits cool slower).
3.
Large areas may not perfectly bond if the adhesive sets
before the full area is covered. For possible solutions to this
problem contact your distributor.
4.
Preheating of surfaces to be bonded to slightly above room
temperature will improve the bond strength. This is
particularly important when gluing metal components.
5.
Hot melts begin melting at 70-80°C and are not suitable for
use where high temperatures will occur after assembly.
6.
Hot melt adhesives can be used as a replacement for nails,
staples, tape or liquid glue but should not be used to replace
structural fasteners where heavy loads are involved.
7.
If your glue is 'stringing' from the nozzle, swirl the nozzle in a
circular motion to cut the string using the external surface
heat of the nozzle.

Preventative maintenance
®
1.
Use only genuine Xtegra
Stickfast™ glue sticks. Other
manufacturers' sticks vary in size which may compromise
gun performance and will invalidate the Xtegra
2.
To prevent the clogging of the glue gun, keep the feed
mechanism and melt chamber free from dirt and other
foreign debris. Store unused glue sticks in their original
packaging and in a clean environment.
3.
Do not remove the glue stick from the back of the gun, as this
will damage or impair the feed mechanism.
4.
To change to another glue type, cut off any protruding glue
stick and by inserting a stick of the new glue, flush the
previous glue from the gun.
5.
Do not place the heated gun on its side for long periods; use
the support stand provided to keep it upright.
6.
If melted glue escapes from the melt chamber at the rear of
the gun and interferes with the feed mechanism, allow the
gun to cool then gently remove the obstructing glue.
7.
In the event of excessive glue leakage from the nozzle, re
place the nozzle.
a) Do not attempt to change the nozzle while the gun is cold.
b) Heat the gun until the glue has softened enough to re
move the nozzle (about one minute).
c) Wearing heat resistant gloves, use a spanner to remove
the old nozzle.
d) Flush glue through the gun to clear the melt chamber.
e) Replace with new nozzle and tighten to a snug fit. Do not
over-tighten.
Service and repairs
Xtegra
®
Stickfast™ glue guns must be returned to the supplier
for servicing or repairs at the user's cost. Providing Stickfast™
glue sticks have been used at all times, parts replaced due to
faulty workmanship or materials under normal conditions of
use and in strict accordance with the operating instructions
will be replaced within 12 months from the date of purchase.
Within this period the supplier retains the right to decide
whether to have the gun repaired or replaced. All repairs and
servicing will be fully chargeable if glue sticks other than
Stickfast™ have been used.
The supplier reserves the right to improve or modify this
product without prior notice.
IMPORTANT!
To ensure the best performance from your applicator follow
the tips below:
>
ALWAYS allow the applicator to warm up to operating
temperature before use. Most guns are ready for use within
5-7 minutes.
>
NEVER lay the glue gun on its side. Always use the gun stand
supplied or another suitable gun stand or suspension hook.
>
ALWAYS UNPLUG the glue gun if it is not to be used for
periods in excess of 40 minutes!
>
NEVER withdraw a partially melted glue stick through the
back of the gun, as this may damage the feed mechanism.
>
NEVER remove the nozzle from a cold applicator as thread
can be damaged. Remove when warm, wearing heat-
resistant gloves.
>
To aid EASIER STARTUP the next time the applicator is used,
disconnect from the power supply when work is complete
and feed about half a stick of molten glue through the gun
during the cooling process.
