9.0 Setting Up the System
M280 Overlay
1. Place the overlay on the existing bed mattress with the connecting hoses at the foot of the bed.
2. Secure overlay to bed by looping the nylon straps on the overlay around the corners of the bed
mattress. Adjust straps leaving enough slack so the corners of the mattress are not compressed when
the bed frame is in a horizontal position. Make sure the side rails can still move up and down without
interference.
M1000 Mattress
1. Place the mattress on the bed frame with the connecting hoses at the foot of the bed.
2. Secure mattress to bed frame by looping the nylon straps on mattress through the bed frame and then
back through the D-rings on mattress. Make sure the side rails can still move up and down without
interference.
3. Lower frame to its horizontal position and tighten straps.
4. Cover the mattress with the low-shear top cover and attach to the mattress by looping the Velcro
straps on the top cover through the D-rings on the mattress and tighten straps. Top cover should be
loose to prevent "hammocking".
Control Unit / Linens / Patient
1. Suspend Control Unit on footboard of bed using the mounting brackets on back of unit. Control Unit can
also be placed on the floor in an upright position.
2. Connect the dual quick-connect couplings of the mattress or overlay hoses to the mating connectors
located on the side of the Control Unit.
3. Check that the hoses are secure by pulling gently. Ensure the hoses are not kinked or tucked under the
mattress or overlay.
4. Plug the AC power cord into a properly grounded outlet.
5. Before turning on the Control Unit, insure that the Alarm ON/OFF Switch is activated by positioning the
switch in the Alarm ON (
Mode or Float/Static Mode.
6. Turn on the Control Unit. Turn Comfort Control Dial completely clockwise for quickest inflation. The
mattress will begin to inflate. This will take approximately 50 minutes for complete inflation. After 50
minutes, turn the Comfort Control Dial completely counter-clockwise. Wait an additional 10 minutes,
then perform the Hand Check procedure as outlined in Section 10.0.
7. Apply hospital linens and/or incontinence pad over the top of the mattress or overlay. Linens should be
loose to prevent "hammocking".
CAUTION: Use minimal layers of sheeting and incontinence pads. Too many layers between the
patient's skin and the support surface will reduce the effectiveness of the system.
8. Place patient on mattress and position along center of bed. Raise the bed side rails.
