14.0 Troubleshooting PM-2X2R and PM-2X4SP CNC routers
* WARNING: Some corrections may require a qualified electrician.
14.1 Mechanical and electrical problems
Symptom
Motor will not start: fuses
blow or circuit breakers
trip.
Motor attempts start, but
will not turn.
Motor overheats (shuts
off).
Motor stalls, resulting in
blown fuses or tripped
circuit.
Router
cutting
depth
inconsistent.
Machine won't power on. E-stop switch engaged.
Machine will not home.
Machine vibrates.
Router cutting depth not
consistent.
Possible Cause
Short circuit in line cord or plug.
Short
circuit
in
motor
connections.
Incorrect fuses/breakers in power line.
Jammed spindle.
Motor faulty.
Spindle run without coolant.
Incorrect voltage.
Dull cutting tools.
No coolant in reservoir, or blockage in
coolant path.
Motor overloaded.
Short
circuit
in
motor
connections.
Low voltage.
Incorrect fuses or circuit breakers in
power line.
Loose cutter.
Spoil boards not flat.
Excessive play in Z-axis ball screw.
No incoming power.
Faulty start switch.
Internal breaker faulty.
Incorrect work space in tool path.
Controller has incorrect coordinate
system.
Limit switches damaged, disconnected
or misadjusted.
Machine not level.
Levelers not all the way down.
Fasteners not tightened.
Bit is loose in collet.
Spoil boards not flat, or have debris.
Z-axis ball screw has excess play.

Correction *
Inspect cord or plug for damaged insulation
and shorted wires.
or
loose
Inspect all connections on motor for loose or
shorted terminals or worn insulation.
Install correct fuses or circuit breakers.
Disconnect from power, try turning spindle by
hand. Check reason for jamming.
Replace spindle.
Replace motor. Maintain coolant level.
Check incoming voltage.
Use sharp tools.
Fill reservoir, check for obstacles in flow path.
Reduce load on motor.
or
loose
Inspect connections on motor for loose or
shorted terminals or worn insulation.
Correct low voltage conditions.
Install correct fuses or circuit breakers.
Tighten cutter in spindle collet.
Check that spoil boards are flat and clean
prior to fitting job.
Inspect and correct if needed.
Release red E-stop switch.
Check
power
condition of power cable.
Inspect and replace.
Replace breaker.
Verify proper work space within tool path.
Verify that controller reads 1X,1Y,1Z. If not,
Press "Menu" and "1" at same time to reset.
If unsure, restore information from Backup
File.
Inspect limit switches and correct problem.
Level machine.
Lower levelers to floor.
Inspect all fasteners for tightness.
Tighten bit.
Verify that spoil boards are flat and clean.
Adjust tightness of ball screw.
