4.5. Zero-adjusting (taring)
Before any force is applied, the instrument has to be customized to the application and be tared. Press the
>>O<<-button for this purpose. (Due to the instrument`s sensitivity a value other then zero is possible to occur as
a consequence of the holding-hand`s shaking or other harldy noticable agitations.)
Do not zero-adjust until the instrument has been placed in the appropriate position for measurement. For force
gauges with a measuring range for low forces it is extremely important to tare the instrument before each
measurement to avoid the impact which the masses of mechanical parts connected to the load cell may have.
4.6. Positioning of gauge
5.0 Operating with threshold values
5.1. General remark
Gauges of the FMI-220 and FMI-230 series can be used for monitoring threshold values, e.g. in the case of a
100%-test to conduct a good/bad-selection.
Shortfall and transgression of the beforehand set threshold value are indicated on the display with the symbols
∆∇. Besides, the switching output is switched accordingly so that it can connect to a display, a meter or a point.
The threashold monitoring function substitutes the overload surveillance at the switching output.
To use the threshold value monitor function it needs to be activated first and provided with values thereafter.
5.2. Activating the threshold value monitoring function
Activation of threshold value monitoring is carried out with function F6, to which you get by several times
pressing the PEAK-button. Proceed as follows:
Switch intstrument off.
Press and hold the MODE-button.
Keep the MODE-button pressed while switching instrument on with the I/O-button.
Wait until F01 is displayed, then release the »O«-button.
Use the PEAK-button to select function F06 .
Then, use the MODE-button to select the threshold monitorung function Hi-Lo (High-Low).
Save this setting by pressing the »O«-button.
5.3. The threshold values` operation mode
An upper (HI) and a lower (LO) threshold can be fed. The display shows the
symbol ∆ once the actual displayed value is smaller than the lower threshold
(LO); it shows the symbol ∇ once the actual displayed value is higher than the
upper threshold (HI). The switching output is set accordingly. When the lower
threshold value is set higher than the upper threshold value, a window
appears, in which both symbols are shown, and both switching outputs will be
set.
Please pay attention on that force effects – both compressive and tensile forces – are
carried out perpendicularly to the measuring axle. The measuring outcome will be false if
the force axle is not aligned perpendicularly.
Force effects that do not appear perpendicularly can damage the internal
sensor. This is true especially for gauges with a measurement range
designed for small forces, when the radial or laterally operating forces are
too high.
