The advantages and disadvantages of centrifugal separation
within the dental unit or in the operation theatre
The advantages of centrifugal separation in the dental unit, compared to traditional sys-
tems with Mini-Separators, are numerous and doubtless much-appreciated by members
of the dental profession:
1 - it avoids level-checks and stoppages in the aspiration due to foam,
2 - it permits the application of the Hydrocyclone and simplifi es maintenance proce-
dures;
3 - furthermore, the separation of liquids directly on the dentist's equipment permits the
installation of a system with countersloping piping, or with siphons, whitch are insuper-
able with wet equipment.
The lack of space inside the dental unit is a problem which cannot be overcome;
we advise against recommend alterations to the dental unit to create space. In this case,
the entire dental unit should be tested again, with costs and errors which are diffi cult to
put right.
