Stand Assist
Thank you for purchasing an Invacare®sling.
The following user's guide must be read and adhered to, or the warranty may be void.
Please check your sling on delivery – if the sling is not in perfect condition, please contact your
supplier.
The Invacare®Stand Assist sling used in conjunction with a standing hoist can provide an
excellent transfer solution for those that have the ability to weight bear but are unable to
independently stand. It also promotes independence and dignity of the client and allows a
simple procedure for the caregiver.
The Stand Assist sling is suitable for clients with a significant trunk and head control and
with an adequate arm and hand dexterity to hold the necessary bar of the hoist to stabilise
themselves during the lift. The weight bearing ability should be bilateral.
Sling Application – Sitting in chair, wheelchair or on the edge of the bed
Lean the client forward ensuring that they are well supported to reduce the risk of falling and
to promote feelings of security.
Slide the sling down behind the back of the client in a central position aligned with the waist.
Sit the client back against the sling. Picture 1.
Fasten the vest round the clients waist by using the adjustable buckle and ensure that the
clients arms are outside the Stand Assist sling. Picture 2.
Place the clients knees secure against the kneepad and make sure that the feet are positioned
well on the footplate. Picture 3.
Attach loops to the bar
Determine the best attachment point for the Stand Assist sling according to the height of the
client. For a tall client the attachment point should be closest to the client and visa verse.
Note: The colour coded straps can be used to place the client in various positions.
The colour makes it easy to connect both sides equally.
Attach the sling to the attachment point from the outside of the stand assist. Picture 4.
Make sure the following:
•
The sling is wrapped around the outside of each lift arm.
•
Use the closest colour coded strap to the client that maintains stability and comfort.
•
The colour coded strap sits flush against the attachment knob.
•
The same colour coded point is used on each lift arm.
•
Always use the same colour code on each side of the Stand Assist sling.
Before lifting the client always instruct the client to do the following:
•
Hold on the handgrips on both sides of the stand assist.
•
Lean back into the Stand Assist sling. Picture 5.
