D. taking a reading
Press the ON/OFF button and keep
still during the measurement: the
slightest movement could result in
an inaccurate measurement
For more details on each operation, please read the relative sections in this manual.

Preliminary remarks

This blood pressure monitor conforms to European standards and bears the CE mark "CE 0068".
The quality of the device has been verifi ed and conforms to the provisions of the European Council directive
93/42/EEC of 14 June 1993 on medical devices, as well as the directive 89/336/EEC on electroma-
gnetic compatibility:
EN 1060-1: 1995/A1: 2002 Non-invasive blood pressure measuring equipment.
EN 1060-3 (Feb. 1997)
To ensure accurate measurements, the calibration of the unit should be checked every two years.
How the Pic CS 530 works
The Pic CS 530 blood pressure monitor uses the oscillometric method to measure arterial blood pressure.
Before the cuff is infl ated, the device will establish a baseline cuff pressure equivalent to the air pressure.
At the press of the button, the cuff is automatically infl ated.
As it infl ates, the monitor will take a fi rst arterial pressure reading, analysing the oscillations.
Once a pressure of 180 mmHg has been reached, the cuff will start to slowly defl ate, accurately measuring
the amplitude and gradient of the pressure oscillations; once the cuff has entirely defl ated, the systolic and
diastolic pressure and pulse rate are displayed.
Arterial blood pressure
What is arterial blood pressure?
Arterial blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery as blood fl ows through it.
The pressure measured when the heart contracts and pumps out blood is called systolic (or highest) blood
pressure, while the pressure measured when the heart dilates and blood fl ows back is called diastolic
(lowest) blood pressure.
