960 Roll Groover
2. Advance the feed screw (clockwise) until upper
groove roll contacts the pipe to be grooved.
NOTE! Upper roll should only touch the pipe surface.
Care must be taken not to penetrate pipe surface
with upper roll by applying excessive pressure.
NOTE! Pipe used for the test groove should be
deburred. Burr on inside of pipe will raise the
pipe away from the drive shaft, causing inac-
curate set-up adjustment. After proper groove
depth has been verified by test groove, debur-
ring of the following pipe is not required.
3. Adjust the integral index depth gauge so that the
pipe size being grooved is under the adjusting screw
(Figure 7).
4. Advance adjusting screw downward until the head
touches depth gauge. Return integral index depth
gauge to the grooving position (Figure 8).
NOTE! It may be necessary to readjust adjusting screw
after test groove is made. Each
ing screw will produce a .02" change in diame-
ter of rolled groove. Tightening adjusting screw
will increase groove diameter. Loosening adjust-
ing screw will decrease groove diameter.

Overfeeding upper groove roll causes pipe flare and
can decrease 1" drive shaft life.

Figure 9 – Applying Pressure On Pipe with Power Drive
Ridge Tool Company
1. Flip the directional switch to REV (Reverse) and step
on power drive foot switch while applying pressure on
the pipe by advancing feed screw with ratchet wrench.
If pipe begins to "walk off" the drive roll,
WARNING
2. To help prevent "walking", apply pressure on pipe with
right hand toward operator when running the power
drive or machine in REVERSE mode (Figure 9).
Do not overfeed upper groove roll. Advance

feedscrew turn per pipe rotation.

3. Continue feed until adjusting screw makes contact
with top plate. Allow pipe to make two complete
rotations in bottomed position to insure uniform
groove depth.
Do not tighten feed screw after adjusting screw
4. Release foot switch and begin retracting upper groove
roll by turning ratchet wrench counterclockwise.
Retract feed screw so that pipe can be removed
from machine.
5. Check groove diameter before proceeding with addi-
tional grooves.
