Glossary of Terminology
The following is a short and simple explanation of the meanings of some terms and acronyms used throughout this User's
Manual.
• DVB :
Digital Video Broadcasting.
A consortium formed by different international organizations and firms whose purpose is to set
worldwide standards for the development of digital television.
• EPG :
Electronic Programme Guide
A guide that provides the user with a listing of events that will be broadcast in each of the programs, the
time when they will be aired and the description of their content.
• Fast Blanking :
A signal sent by SCART, controlling the RGB status of the TV set.
• FTA :
Free To Air
Open (non-coded) broadcast programs.
• Letterbox :
One of the display modes for 4:3 ratio TV sets of programs broadcast in 16:9 ratio.
Two black bands appear on the top and bottom of the screen to create a window with the ratio that is
needed.
• LCN :
Automatic Channel Ordering
As long as this function is enabled, the Adaptor orders the channels found according to the operator's
pre-determined listing.
• MPEG 2 :
Family of audio-visual compression standards used by the DVB.
• OSD :
On Screen Display.
A system of onscreen menus.
• VCR :
Video Casette Recorder.
A home video machine.
• COFDM :
Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
COFDM modulation technology enables more reliable and robust digital transmission than its analog
predecessors, since stable transmissions are possible in urban contexts even when no direct line of
vision exists between aerials. Its basic function is the division of the digital data frame to be
transmitted among multiple narrow carriers that occupy the whole available band width, and the
increased length of transmission time for each symbol, including a safety interval.

Standard for the connection of peripheral.
