circuit leads, but only if permitted by local code. This practice is not permitted by CEC in Canada.
The breakers provide additional failure protection as well as a SPD connection and servicing
disconnect.
WarnInG:
DO NOT connect SPD panel leads directly to service entrance lugs. This may result
in fire or shock.
4. Lead lengths should be as short as possible. Connect the Black leads to each Phase through the
selected circuit breakers. Connect the White lead to Neutral as close as possible to the Neutral
entrance service lug. Connect the Green lead to Ground as close as possible to the Ground bus
at the service entrance. SPD panel must be properly grounded and meet local, National (NEC) or
Canadian (CEC) Electrical Code approved practise.
noTE: Avoid long loops and do not coil extra lead wire.
5. Replace circuit breaker panel cover.
6. rESTorE PoWEr at circuit breaker or fuse. Installation is complete.
noTE (remote Connection): Relay status contacts for the SPD accommodate #20-#12AWG
wire secured to terminals using 3.5 in.-lbs. of torque. Wiring must be rated 600 VAC, dressed and
secured away from live parts and protected from sharp edges and door entrapment. Hole must
be cut in enclosure for conduit connection. If surge protection fails, continuity will be between the
"NO" and "C" contacts. This wiring is accessed through the easily removable top access panel.
WarnInG:
REMOVE HIGH CURRENT SPD PANEL FROM ALL INCOMING POWER BEFORE
TESTING AND/OR REPLACEMENT OF THE 3 MAIN CIRCUIT BOARD FUSES.
noTES:
1. STarT-uP and norMal operations are conducted with outer door closed.
2. During conditions of STarT-uP or norMal oPEraTIonS, if all LEDs are off and/or the Surge
Counter Display is blank, then remove all power from the High Current SPD Panel and check
continuity for all three standard fuses located on the main circuit board.
STarT-uP:
noTE: Firmly press and hold (approximately 1/2 second) each LCD display "button" when instructed
so that the LCD can sense the command.
These instructions are initiated automatically when power is applied to the panel and the outer door is
closed. Lines 1 & 2 of the LCD provide company information. Line 3 (refer to Display 1) indicates that
internal diagnostic test is being conducted, which is followed by an indication of the results.
If a "Fault" (Red) is detected, remove power from the panel and check connections and fuses inside,
then close both doors and reapply power to panel. The start-up routine will run again. Following
successful diagnostic test, the default date and time will be displayed. To save the displayed date/time,
press "Enter". To change the date/time initially shown on the LCD, depress the Line 1 button (refer to
right side of Display 2). Then use the control panel arrow keys (located at the bottom of the Status
Display) to increase or decrease the month digits. Depress "Enter" to save the value and move the
cursor to the day, then use the control panel arrow keys to select the desired day. Depress "Enter"
to move cursor to the year, then use arrow keys to select the first two digits of the century. Similarly,
depress "Enter" and use arrow keys to select the last two digits of the year, then the hours, and then
the minutes. When the date and time are complete, depress "Enter" to return to the surge display.
