1. DESCRIPTION
The dim controller enables all dimmable light settings to be created via the Nikobus. These settings are written
into the memory so that the user can access a specific light setting directly by pressing a key, without having
to dim each lamp again separately.
The different light settings are set by the user and can easily be modified. These settings are entered using the
Nikobus push buttons.
The dim controller has 12 voltage controlled 0-10V outputs. Each of these outputs controls one or more dimmers.
The power electronics in the connected dimmers must be galvanically isolated. The 0V terminal is bridged within
the dim controller. At 0V the connected lamp will be completely off. There is an analogue control voltage over the
entire 0-10V range. At 10V the lamp is 100% on.
Any 0-10V compatible dimmer with galvanically isolated control input can be connected to the Nikobus dim
controller.
One or more dim controllers can be connected in parallel to the switching or shutter control units via the bus
line. The polarity (B1—>B1, B2—>B2) of the bus connection must be taken into account when
doing this.
The dim controller has two 230V logic inputs and a diagnosis reporting facility.
As with the switching or shutter control units, the interchangeable EEPROM non volatile memory stores an
identification number, the settings, the dimmer parameters for each output and the last values entered before
a power failure. Identification LEDs and an acoustic signal also ensure that all functions are indicated during
programming.

2. OPERATION AND USE

Start-up function
By briefly pressing the 'select' key it is possible to select the outputs manually and by holding the key down
(>1s.) to temporarily switch on the output. Use this feature:
• if the bus is not yet installed;
• to control the outputs in the event of a fault in the bus (short-circuit or interruption);
• to test or localize output circuits.
Diagnosis reporting
During normal operation (not during programming) there is continuous diagnosis reporting on the LEDs:
M1 lights if a correct Nikobus telegram is received (flashes if data is faulty)
M2 flashes in the event of a short circuit or errors in bus polarisation (e.g. change in bus polarity between 2
modules)
M3 flashes in the event of errors in the bus supply (defective bus supply circuit)
M4 flashes in the event of a memory communication error (e.g. defective EEPROM) or if a wrong module type
is used (e.g. shutter control module memories located in a dim controller)
External 230V inputs with 'logic' functions
The 230V inputs 'A' and 'B' can be used both as switching and pass-through function inputs.
Use as switching input:
- The outputs react to the input changes, depending on the mode.
- The action is always carried out, irrespective of what is happening in the Nikobus.
- The signal from these inputs takes priority over the Nikobus telegram.
- Following a power failure the functions are implemented according to the temporary status of these inputs.
These inputs can also be programmed with the logic function 'AND'. Thus, for example, the external light can be
left on if the time switch clock is at 'ON' and the dimmer switch is also at 'ON'.
Use as pass-through function:
During programming an additional condition can be provided via a separate 230V input. The action will be
implemented or otherwise according to the temporary status of the input,. Thus, for example, a light can only be
switched on via a bus button if a dimmer switch senses that it is dark.
Central functions with operating time (1 to 3s, in modes M5 and M6)
The operating time can be varied between 1 and 3s. One application may be for safety reasons: a key must
be pressed for 2s before all lights go off. Another application is that different actions are assigned to one key,
according to the operating time.
Definitions
Dmax: the maximum voltage at which no further visual change occurs
the maximum output voltage for a manual on-dim function
Dmin: the minimum regulating voltage for a manual off-dim function
Dstart: the start / stop voltage when dimming on or off
the voltage at which the lamp begins to glow
Example:
These parameters can be set individually for each output:
Dstart: between 0-2V in 16 steps (default value = 1,6V)
Dmin: between 1-4V in 16 steps (default value = 1,6V)
Dmax: between 6-10V in 16 steps (default value = 10V)

4. LEGAL WARNINGS
- The installation has to be carried out by a registered installer and in compliance with the statutory regula-
tions.
- This user manual has to be handed over to the user. It has to be included in the electrical installation file and
has to be passed on to any new owners. Additional copies are available on the Niko website or via the support
service.
- During installation, the following has to be taken into account (not limited to list below):
- The statutory laws, standards and regulations;
- The state of the art technique at the moment of installation;
- This user manual, which must be read within the scope of each specific installation, only states general
regulations;
- The rules of proper workmanship

In case of a defect, you can return your product to a registered Niko wholesaler, together with a clear description
of your complaint (Conditions of use, stated defect...).

5. GUARANTEE PROVISIONS

- Period of guarantee: 2 years from date of delivery. The delivery date is the invoice date of purchase of the
product by the consumer. If there is no invoice, the date of production applies.
- The consumer is obliged to inform Niko in writing about the defect, within two months after stating the
defect.
- In case of a failure to conform, the consumer has the right to a repair or replacement (decided by Niko) free of
charge.
- Niko cannot be held liable for a defect or damage as a result of an incorrect installation, improper or careless
use or wrong usage or transformation of the goods.
- The compulsory regulations of the national legislation concerning the sales of consumer goods and the protection
of the consumers in the countries where Niko sells, directly or via sister or daughter companies, chain stores,
distributors, agents or permanent sales representatives, take priority over the rules and regulations mentioned
above.
