Installation
General
Take the following into account when choosing a position for
the tank and the deck filler cap:
•
The filler hose must be as short as possible, must slope
down continuously from the deck cap to the tank and must
be as straight as possible.
•
The height difference between the tank and the filler cap may
be a maximum of 3 metres (10 ft) (the maximum excess pres-
sure in the tank is 0.3 bar ! (4.3 psi))
Position
•
Position the tank in such a way that it is readily accessible
for inspection.
•
The space in which the tank is placed should be properly
ventilated. The tank should be 1 cm (3/8") free all round from
bulkheads or other tanks, to provide ventilation.
•
There must be sufficient free space available to perform
maintenance on the pump.
•
Also ensure that there is sufficient free space over the top
of the tank for the hose connections. These must be easily
accessible during installation.
•
Make sure that the foundation for the tank is strong enough
to locate it securely. The tank will increase in size slightly
when filled. Take this into account when securing the tank.
•
Attach the tank using
the stainless steel rings
supplied.
Fitting in sailing ships
•
When fitting remember that the filler hose must always be
positioned on the same side of the ship as the tank. This
prevents too high a pressure from possibly occurring in the
tank when sailing at an angle.
Drinking water tank systems 42, 61, 88 and 120 litres
Inspection cover and fittings
The inspection cover and the fittings are pre-assembled in the
upper section of the tank.
•
Undo the bolts so that the fittings can be placed the right way
round.
•
Tighten the nuts using the
wrench, never with water-pump
pliers. Do not tighten the nuts
excessively.
•
After 2 days check that the con-
nector nuts are still tight, tight-
en more securely if required.
Repeat this after 4 days.
•
The sensor for a water level meter is already fitted in the top
of the tank. The sensor can be connected only to a Vetus
level indicator for water.
Tank connections
See pages 28 and 29 for an installation example.
•
Connect the tank with a good quality reinforced hose. Avoid
sharp bends and kinks or sagging in the hose.
The reinforced hose must be of quality suitable for drinking
water and resistant to a temperature of at least 60 degrees C
(140 degrees F) and a pressure of 4 bar (4 kgf/cm
Vetus supplies a hose suitable for tap water. It is tasteless, non-
poisonous, resistant to temperatures from -5 to +65 degrees C
(+23 to +149 degrees F).

•
Fit every hose connection with a good stainless steel hose
clip.
•
Fit filler cap (13).
•
Install a filler hose (14), 38 mm (
between the filler cap and the tank. Instal this hose in such a
way that neither tank nor filler cap are subject to mechanical
loads.
•
Fit air-relief nipple (12) as high as possible above the level
of the top of the tank. Ensure that the air-relief nipple is fitted
where it cannot fill with rain or other water.
•
Fit air-relief pipe (11), 16 mm (
air-relief nipple and the tank (3).
When viewed from the tank, the air-relief pipe should be fitted
straight up.
