1 Product Information
Tin Side Detector UVG 4 for Float Glass. For certain
applications in glass processing it is necessary to know
which side of the glass sheet has been in contact with
the tin during float glass production.
This is easily achieved with the new Tin Side Detector.
The tin side detector is especially suitable for use
during fusing, glass bending, painting and other
types of finishing!
The handy size and the fact that it is operated by 4
standard "AA" batteries makes this very practical
device quick and easy to use in any possible situation.
2 Application
Hold the detector with the light emitting side below the
glass, touching the surface, and switch it on (see photo).
If the blue UV light turns milky, the side touched by the
detector is the tin side. If the light does not change its
colour or appearance, it is the air side. For additional
testing security the test should be repeated - if possible -
from the other side of the glass sheet. Please note: The
device should not be left on continuously because the
maximum service life of the batteries is approx. four
hours.
3 Troubleshoot
The tin side detector does not light up.
Check batteries and exchange them if necessary
(see 4)
Check fluores-cent tube and exchange it if necessary
(see 5).
Spare fluorescent tubes available under BO 51 646 11.
4 To change the batteries
When the brightness of the UV lamp begins to weaken,
the batteries probably need replacing. To replace, open
cover at the side of the detector and remove batteries.
Insert 4 new "AA" batteries in the correct position and
close cover.
5 To replace the bulb
Please replace the bulb as follows:
1. Switch the device off.
2. Remove the filter cover on top of the detector
(see picture).
3. Rotate the bulb (90°) to remove and replace it. Please
note: The glass body of the fluorescent tube should
not be touched with bare hands. Finger prints can
stain the tube, hinder the even light radiation and
reduce the luminosity of the device. Avoid touching
the contacts as they must not be soiled.
4. Reposition the filter cover on top of the lamp and
slightly press it until it locks into place.
6 Warning
The UV radiation emitted by this device is harmful to eyes
or skin; direct contact can lead to damage and must be
avoided. Do not operate the device without filter cover,
or if the casing is damaged in any way. Please make sure
that electronic components and the fluorescent tube are
disposed of in an appropriate manner and in compliance
with the current legislation. For professional disposal,
used appliances can be sent back to Bohle.
