1. Information on your PicoConnect 442 differential
probe
This guide describes the following probe for the PicoScope 4444 differential
oscilloscope:

For information on the PicoScope 4444 differential oscilloscope, refer to the PicoScope
4444 User's Guide.
The PicoConnect 442 probe enables the PicoScope 4444 differential oscilloscope to
measure large-amplitude voltages or voltages with a large common-mode offset.
Such voltages are found in electrical power converters, inverters, motor speed
controls, switch mode power supplies and many other devices.
The probe includes the following component parts:

1.1 Measurement categories and CAT ratings
This probe is rated for use up to Measurement Category III (CAT III) as defined by
EN 61010-1:2010. The relevant categories are as follows:
No Measurement Category
Definition For measurements performed on circuits not directly connected to a
mains supply.
Examples Measurements in circuits not derived from a mains supply and specially
protected (internal) circuits derived from a mains supply.
Measurement Category II (CAT II)
Definition Measurement category II is for measurements performed on circuits
directly connected to the low voltage installation.
Examples Household appliances, portable tools and similar equipment.
Measurement Category III (CAT III)
Definition Measurement category III is for measurements performed in the
building installation.
Examples Measurements on distribution boards, circuit breakers, wiring including
cables, bus-bars, junction boxes, switches, socket-outlets in the fixed
installation and equipment for industrial use like for example stationary
motors with permanent connection to the fixed installation.
The probe body provides double-insulated protection for the user for CAT ratings up
to and including 1000 V CAT III.
