Installation

1. Place pump as close to the liquid being pumped
as possible. A pump with a 20 foot suction lift will
not pump water as quickly as a pump with a 5 foot
suction lift (Figure 1).

Support pump when assembling
and after installation. Failure to do so may cause
piping to break and pump to fail. This can result in
property damage and/or serious personal injury and
may void warranty.
• Keep all pipes and hoses as short and as straight
as possible. This will maximize the pumps
performance.
• Using larger diameter piping for the inlet and outlet
lines will improve performance of pump.
• Maximum suction lift capability is 25 feet.
2. Plumb suction line using reinforced hose or rigid
pipe using at least 2" diameter hose or pipe.
Suction hose and fittings must be air-tight.
• All suction connections must be air-tight. An air
leak in the suction line may prevent priming of the
pump. Use of thread sealant is recommended.
• Suction line must be reinforced or rigid pipe to prevent
collapse due to the suction created by the pump.
3. Install check valve (not included) at the intake of the
suction line to help maintain pump prime (Figure 2).

4. Install suction strainer (not included) at the intake of
the suction line to prevent introduction of abrasive
material or debris (Figure 2). Position strainer so it
does not become clogged with stones or debris.
5. Plumb discharge hose to desired area. Make
sure hose and fitting are leak-tight. A leak in the
discharge hose will allow water to spray the work
site, making the site hazardous.
6. Fill engine crankcase with oil. Use Honda 4 stroke
oil or S.A.E. 10W-30 detergent oil.
The Honda engine is equipped
with a low oil shut-off sensor. The engine will shut down
and will not restart if the oil level becomes too low.
7. Fill the engine fuel tank with gasoline. Refer to
engine operating manual for the specific grade of
gasoline and amount required.
Use caution when handling
gasoline. Refuel in well-ventilated area. Never refuel
while engine is running or hot.

Operation

1. Add water to the priming port on the pump (Figure
3). Continue adding water until the water level is
approximately 3 inches from the top. Install the
priming pump plug. The water in the pump will
create the suction that primes the pump.
• Do not run pump dry. Water is required to
lubricate the shaft seal.
• Pumping chemicals or corrosive liquids with
this pump may shorten the life of the pump, be
hazardous to operators and will void the warranty.
• Complete pump and piping system MUST be
protected against below freezing temperatures.
Failure to do so will cause serious damage and
voids the warranty. During freezing weather, open
the drain port and allow all the water in the pump
to drain. This will prevent damage to the pump
when the water freezes.
