I. INTRODUCTION
You have purchased Lyf'Safe, the new Wichard set of ready-to-use jacklines. Thank you
for your interest and confidence in our products; we hope that Lyf'Safe will meet with your
satisfaction.
I.1 SCOPE
Lyf'Safe is an adjustable jackline that can be tailored to the length of your boat (see selection
table on page 2). Attached to your boat using the fastenings provided for by standard NF
EN ISO 15085, Lyf'Safe enables safe movement on board. This product was designed to
simultaneously prevent 2 individuals, each weighing 100 kg, from going overboard. To make
the sailor's jackline system completely safe and comprehensive, Lyf'Safe must be used with a
tether that meets standard EN 1095, with the tether connected to the user through the safety
harness.
I.2 LIABILITY
It is your responsibility to learn the appropriate techniques and safety measures. You personally
assume all risks and liabilities for any material damage or bodily harm (including injury or death)
that may occur following the improper installation or use of this product in any way whatsoever.
This product must not be used beyond its limits or in any situation other than its intended use. In
the event of uncertainty or difficulty understanding, ask Wichard SAS for information.
In particular, under no circumstances may Wichard SAS be held liable for the consequences
of improper installation or use of Lyf'Safe caused by the boat owner's violation of clause III.5
below.
I.3 LYF'SAFE DESCRIPTION: SEE PHOTO 1, PAGE 2
Lyf'Safe consists of two jacklines, each composed of:
> 1 webbing with 1 reflective strip and 2 anti-abrasion sides, 1 loop with a turned edge (A) with
a high-resistance seam and 1 free end (B).
> 1 stainless steel non-slip adjuster, specially designed for guaranteed locking and optimal
adjustment (C).
> 1 locking system or casing (D), covering the adjuster, with 1 lower part made of shock-
absorbing and noise-reducing elastomer, and 1 photoluminescent upper part. Assembled using
4 self-tapping screws, the whole moulds to the shape of the deck.
II. LYF'SAFE INSTALLATION AND USE
II.1 COMPATIBILITY
As one component of a safety system, Lyf'Safe must be combined with the appropriate tethers
and fastenings.
II.1.A Fastenings
Fastenings for the ends of Lyf'Safe must meet standard NF EN ISO 15085, or: "...be capable
of resisting a horizontal force of 20,000 N applied in the direction of a straight line connecting
them, and up to an angle of 30° with respect to this straight line." On the majority of small crafts,
the fastenings are installed by the manufacturer and have different shapes: U-bolts or pad
eyes, cleats, pullpits, or even a notch on the toe rail (see examples on page 2, photos 2, 3 and
4). If this type of fastening is absent, Wichard recommends installing its pad eyes (ref. 6504). To
guarantee the integrity of Lyf'Safe, the fastening points must not have abrasive or sharp edges,
and must have a minimum of Ø6 in contact with the webbing. If need be, the use of Wichard
shackles, ref. 1204, 1244, 1224, or models equivalent in load, can provide an appropriate
solution for your deck plan configuration. It is up to each owner to check the reliability of the
fastening points with their manufacturer or a professional.
II.1.B Tethers
Attachment of the user to the Lyf'Safe must be done using a tether that meets standard EN
1095. The standard number, as well as the CE logo, identifies these products for you. Tethers
sold by Wichard meet this standard (see page 7).
II.2 INSTALLATION
Recommendation: Lyf'Safe must be installed along the clearest path between the bow and

stern fastening points. Furthermore, it must allow the user to move about without having to
unhook/hook up again (as far as possible). Lyf'Safe will not necessarily be taut between the
fastenings.
Step 1: Pass the end of the webbing (with loop) into the selected fastening point in the bow
(photos 6 and 7).
Step 2: Pass the free end of the webbing back through the loop to make a secure bow
fastening (photos 8 and 9).
Step 3: Pass the free end into the adjuster (photos 10 and 11). CAUTION: the adjuster must
be turned so that the initial W is facing the bow of the boat.
Step 4: Once the webbing is in position on the deck, slip the adjuster onto the webbing to
position it approximately 20 cm from the stern fastening (photo 12).
Step 5: Pass the free end inside the stern fastening before passing it again through the
adjuster (photos 13 and 14).
Step 6: Position the free end in the notches abaft of the adjuster (photo 15).
Step 7: Check the proper adjustment (distance between stern fastening point and adjuster =
minimum 10 cm - maximum 20 cm). Readjust if necessary. Once the final adjustment is made,
cleanly cut the free end of the webbing approximately 3 cm from the back of the adjuster (photo
16) by heating the blade of a knife or craft knife.
Step 8: Position the lower casing under the adjuster, following the shape of the cavity. Place
the upper casing on the adjuster and the lower casing so that the two are superimposed,
completely confining the webbing. (1 arrow = 1 webbing pass-through; 3 arrows = 3 webbing
pass-throughs) (photos 17, 18 and 19).
Step 9: Put the two casings together using the provided self-tapping screws (photos 20 and
21).
II.3 ADJUSTMENTS AND WINTERING
It is possible to readjust the tension of Lyf'Safe by adjusting the adjuster. To do so, dismantle
the casing, readjust the webbing in the adjuster, then reassemble the casing.
In the event of wintering, dismantle the entire system by going through the installation steps
backwards from step 9 to step 1.
II.4 USE
Precaution no. 1: Make sure to always attach the harness line snap hook between the sewn
loop and the loop formed by the adjuster. Never attach the snap hook to one of these two loops.
Precaution no. 2: While an indefinite number of users can be hitched to Lyf'Safe, only 2
users each weighing 100 kg can move about simultaneously on the deck. In the event more
than two users are moving about the deck while attached to Lyf'Safe, their complete safety
cannot be guaranteed.
Precaution no. 3: When using a 3-point tether, it is necessary to attach oneself with the
snap hook that remained free before detaching oneself from the jackline.
Precaution no. 4: Should a man go overboard, it is necessary to inspect the product
(See § III.2.A).

and tear, oxidation, modifications and alterations, improper storage, improper maintenance,

all excluded. Wichard is not liable for direct, indirect or accidental consequences, or any other
