1.2- INSTALLATION OF CHIMNEYS FOR SOLID FUELS
1.2.1-COMPONENTS OF A VENTING SYSTEM
A venting system consists of various components:
Appliance connector, cleaning hatch, caps, flue shut off valve, insulated ceiling and wall
protectors, wall pass-throughs, linings, protective chambers, etc... and the chimney
connector.
To install your stove safely, it is absolutely necessary that you install all of these components
in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, particularly in terms of clearances
to combustible surfaces.
Chimney Connector
The chimney connector is the stovepipe from the stove to the chimney. The chimney
connector should have the diameter specified by the manufacturer. The material should
be special steel for venting pipes, either with anti-heat paint protection, vitrified enamel or
stainless steel with heat resistant properties. Use pipes manufactured for this purpose.
Never use aluminium or galvanized steel pipe. These materials cannot withstand the
extreme temperatures of the fire.
The chimney connector should be as short as possible, avoiding if possible, horizontal
sections and 90º elbows. Use of horizontal pipes or too many elbows increases the
obstruction of the flue and the accumulation of creosote in the chimney.
When positioning horizontal pipes, it is recommendable that they have a minimum
ascending inclination of 5º.
Fit a cleaning hatch. Simplify the connection between the pipes and the stove using
additional accessories such as telescopic pipes or cleaning Ts.
Telescopic pipes allow the chimney to be separated without the need to move the
appliance and facilitate inspection and maintenance.
