For single phase the white lead exits the epoxy potting in
the plate between the motor housing and cord cap, and
is connected to terminal 5 on the relay. The black lead
exits the potting and is connected to black power cord
line via a butt connector. This connection is shared with
a lead from the start capaciter and a lead from the run
capacitor. The red lead exits the potting and is connected
to terminal 2 on the relay, which is shared with a lead
from the run capacitor. The remaining lead from the start
capacitor is connected to terminal 1 on the relay (see
Figure 6, page 11)
Note: Rotation should be clockwise when observed from
the top of the pump. This can be checked by noting
which direction the pump torque is upon initial starting.
A properly rotating pump will torque counterclockwise
upon start.
The control cable has 3 conductors: black, white and
green. Black and white connect to the seal failure leads,
and the green connects to the ground screw (25).
Note: Each cable has a green ground wire and must be
properly grounded per the National Electric Code and
local codes.
Electrical Motor Controls: All electrical
controls and motor starting equipment
should be as specified in these instructions.
Pre-operation
CHECK VOLTAGE AND PHASE
Before operating pump, check to make sure that voltage
and phase information stamped on the pump's identifica-
tion plate matches the available power.
CHECK PUMP ROTATION
Before putting pump into service for the first time, the
motor rotation must be checked. Improper motor rota-
tion can result in poor pump performance and
can damage the motor and/or pump.
IDENTIFICATION PLATE
Note the numbers on the pumps identification plate and
record at the end of this manual for future reference.

Electrical Connections
Always rely upon a Certified Electrician for installation.
Piggy-Back Plug Plug the
level control plug into a
6-20R receptacle, then plug
the pump into the piggy-back
plug (See Figure 2). It is
recommended that this circuit
have a 30 AMP breaker. One
cycle of operation should be
observed, so that any potential
problems can be corrected.
It is recommended that the level control float should be
set to ensure that the liquid in the sump never drops
below the top of the motor housing. The level control
should have adequate clearance so it cannot hang up in
it's swing and that the pump is completely submerged
when the level control is in the "Off " mode. Minimum
tether length is 3.50".
By adjusting the cord tether the control level can be
changed. DO NOT USE THE POWER OR CONTROL
CABLE TO LIFT PUMP.
Thermal Protection
On single phase models,the normally closed (N/C) over
temperature sensor is embedded in the motor windings
and will detect excessive heat in the event an overload
condition occurs. The thermal sensor will trip when the
windings become too hot and will automatically reset
when the pump motor cools to a safe temperature.
In the event of an over temperature, the source of this
condition should be determined and repaired immediately.
Thermal protection shall not be used as a motor overload
device.
