INSTALLING MOUNTING STRUCTURE
1. First, remove all contents from packaging and familiar
ize yourself with the chimney parts provided and the parts
needed for installation. Remove the upper and lower
covers and disassemble the top and bottom chimney
structure frames.
2. A. Select a hood preference height above the cooktop
that is comfortable for the user (Fig. A). Thermador
recommends a distance of 30"-36" between the
countertop and bottom of hood.
B. Calculate mounting structure height by using
formulas in Fig. A and dimensions in Table 1.
3. Mark centerline of cooktop or range on ceiling above.
Use centerlines marked on ceiling to position the mount
ing template, then tape in place. Note location of mount
ing holes indicated on template (see Fig. B).
4. Cut and remove ceiling drywall. Install 2"x4" lumber
between joists to provide chimney mounting points as
shown in Fig. C.
5. Mount top frame of mounting structure with lag bolts
provided, as shown in Figure C.
NOTE: Wooden structure must be able to withstand weight
of hood and complete chimney assembly. (See Table 1).
MAKE SURE TO AFFIX THE ADDED LUMBER
FIRMLY AND LEVEL. Consult a professional if
you have difficulties or if your installation is
unique.
6. Install exhaust duct (see Table 1 for size). Female end
shall be 4-1/2" below finished ceiling and securely fast-
ened to joists. It is not recommended to use duct smaller
than specified.*
7. Install 1/2" electrical conduit in location marked on tem-
plate and extend from ceiling to top of hood (length B).*
8. Install drywall around chimney structure; then refinish
ceiling.
