PRAP
1
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The PRAP microwave movement detector has been designed to control the opening of automatic and industrial doors. The device is
very versatile and can detect moving persons as well as larger bodies such as motor vehicles in general over surface areas from 1 to 20
square metres. This versatility is achieved thanks to the possibility of setting the detector's operating range as desired and of adjusting
its height of installation from between 2.5 and 6 metres by appropriately directing the radar by means of the horizontal and vertical
securing screw.
It is possible to set the detector as monodirectional or bi-directional by the means of dip-switches (Fig. 4).
The PRAP essentially consists of a signal receiver-transmitter. Each device is equipped with a LED (Fig. 1, B) which signals movement
detection and relay energizing, as well as with a trimmer for adjusting detection range (Fig. 1, C), and as well as with a trimmer for
adjusting relay activation time (Fig. 1, G).
It also comes with a metal support bracket (Fig. 1, A) complete with a securing screw (Fig. 1, D) which permits to adjust the device in
height (± 45° ) and lengthwise (± 90° ) , and with a pre-wired 2,5 m-long power cable.
2
APPLICATIONS
The high protection class (IP66) of the box with which it is supplied and the possibility of adjusting both its operating range through the
appropriate trimmer (Fig. 1, C) and its vertical and horizontal setting through the appropriate securing screw (Fig. 1, D), make the PRAP
ideal for both indoor and outdoor installation on automatic and industrial doors.
The volume detection threshold of the PRAP can also be adjusted by appropriately acting on the aforementioned devices so as to make
it detect only bodies of certain dimensions and to cover the full range of all possible vehicles.
For range adjustment, see Fig. 2 & Fig. 3.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
Mount the PRAP only in vibration-free sites and on vibration-free surfaces at a height of between 2.5 and 6 metres from the ground.
Also make sure that it is adequately protected against weather agents and from the risk of accidental impacts.
Reach (Fig. 1, G) the dip-switches (Fig. 4) to set up the detector as monodirectional or bi-directional and to select the kind of the output
relay contact (by means of jumper).
To avoid false tripping, do not install the detector in areas with bodies in continuous movement. Take care to prevent the detector from
being struck by direct beams from fluorescent lamps in the vicinity. A few examples of installation are shown in Fig. 2.
Vertical and/or horizontal orientation of the detector towards the centre of the area to be controlled is achieved by loosening the bracket
clamp screw (Fig. 1, D). Set desired detection range Fig. 3 by means of the adjusting trimmer (Fig. 1, C). A setting such that no
movement can be detected below 20 ÷ 30 cm from the ground is recommended.
This setting is advisable in order to reduce the risk of the device being tripped by noise, i.e. by vibrations which could interfere with the
normal operation of the PRAP.
Once range has been set as desired, fit the screw cap (Fig. 1, F) into the adjustment hole.
Each further change in set up must be done when the detector is switched off.
