2 — INSTALLING THE AMPLIFIER
CONNECTION OF THE MAINS LEAD IN THE «TAL-890» AMPLIFIERS :
The mains-powered «TAL-890» amplifiers are supplied without mains lead. The lead to be used will
have to be a two-conductor, round, diameter 5 to 7 mm lead, with an appropriate plug and the necessary
length. Prior to install the amplifier, connect the mains lead as indicated in the pictures above on page 32
(to open the housing see point 1 of paragraph 2.2 here below).
2.1 - MOUNTING
2.1.1 - Wall or pedestal mounting (Fig. 2):
Use two DIN 7971
situated at both sides.
2.1.2 - Strand mounting (Fig. 3):
Mount the housing to the strand through the two clamps at the upper side. Using a number 10
spanner, tighten the U1 and U2 screws between 4.5 and 7.5 Nm.
2.2 - RF CONNECTIONS
WARNING: Make sure there is no remote powering voltage in the network. A shortcircuit when
connecting the coaxial cables could damage components.
1. Unscrew fully the four screws T (Fig. 4) with the help of a number 10 spanner. Displace slightly
upwards the projecting portion P in order to take it out its emplacement and, without releasing it, let
fall the lid; this last remains attached by two strings.
In the internal label E1 are identified the input port (A), input bypass port (B), output-2 port (C) and
output-1 port (D).
2. Loosen the T
screwdriver (T
be configurated).
3. Put back the lid simply by placing the projecting portion P into its emplacement at the upper side.
4. Remove the plastic protective caps from the A and D down ports. If the side ports are going to be
used, remove the protective metallic caps with the help of a number 17 spanner and then
screw them on the free down ports; torque 1.5 Nm.
5. If the C and D ports are going to be used, remove the protective metallic caps with the number 17
spanner.
6. Install the 5/8" connectors on the coaxial cables as recommended by the manufacturer. Whether
the connectors are pin type or feed-through type, cut the inner conductor to a length of 25 mm (see
Fig. 5). An 1:1 scaled drawing is available on the internal label E2.
7. Make sure the threads and mating surfaces of the connectors and housing are perfectly clean.
Verify also the O-rings are in place.
8. Apply anti-seizure compound to threads and O-rings of the connectors, and thread these ones into
the RF ports (a little plastic bag containing four O-rings is supplied with the amplifier). Torque no
more than 34 Nm.
9. Open the housing again and tighten the T
contact between inner conductor and terminal (torque no more than 1.1 Nm).
