914 In Place Roll Groover

914 Roll Groover Maintenance

1. Inspect all moving parts to ensure nothing is damaged
or seized.
2. Confirm that groove roll set equals pipe/tube application.
3. Replace worn or damaged groove or drive rolls.
4. Keep roll groove feed screw clean and free turning.
5. A lithium based lubricant should be applied between
the bottom of the feed screw and the mating reaction
arm pin.
6. Keep ratchet in working condition. Keep handle clean
to prevent hands from slipping.
7. Ensure that all fasteners are tight.
Roll Grooving with the 914
Pipe Set-up
1. The pipe/tube must be secured and not free to rotate
prior to roll grooving with the 914.
A bench vise or tristand vise should be used if
pipe/tube is not installed. For material longer than
three feet (one meter) in length, a pipe support must
also be used.
Once pipe/tube is installed, care must be taken to
prevent rotating or movement. Make sure that the
added weight and force required of the 914 can be
supported by the pipe hangers and clamps.
2. Make sure pipe/tube end is cut square and free of
burrs. Do not attempt to groove pipe that has been cut
with a torch.
3. Pipe/tube out-of-roundness must not exceed the total
O.D. tolerances listed in the dimension specification
(Table 1) .
NOTE! Determine out-of-roundness by measuring maxi-
mum and minimum outside dimensions at 90
degree increments. Compare minimum and maxi-
mum numbers with pipe diameter column in table I.
4. All internal or external weld beads, flash or seams
must be ground flush at least 2" back from the pipe end.
Important: Do not grind flats on the pipe outside wall where
the coupling gasket seals (gasket seat area).
5. The 914 Roll Groover will orbit around the pipe/tube.
Care must be taken that adequate space is provided
completely around material.
NOTE! The RIDGID 914 can roll groove pipe/tube within 5"
of a wall, ceiling or any other obstruction.
