Installation
Position the energizer in an upright postion on firm
ground, away from flooding and out of reach of
animals and children.
If possible, position the energizer in a sheltered
area to protect it from the weather and improve
visibility of the indicators. Try to position the
energizer as near as possible to the centre of the
electric fence. Ensure that the energizer, battery,
earth rods and all connections are protected from
interference by animals.
Warning!
Switch off the energizer before
installing or connecting a battery.
Installing the internal battery (9 V or
12 V)
1
Place the energizer on a flat surface. Open the
lid of the energizer by pushing the side latch.
Remove any loose accessories from the
battery compartment.
2
Use a 55-175 Ah 9 V battery OR a 35 Ah (or
greater) 12 V battery. (If you use an external
12 V battery, see the following section).
3
If you are using a 9 V battery, remove the
special battery label to activate the battery
(failure to do this will reduce the battery life).
4
Place the battery in the battery compartment.
5
Connect the positive (RED) lead from the
battery to the positive (+) terminal inside the
lid of the energizer.
6
Connect the negative (BLACK) lead from the
battery to the negative (–) terminal inside the
lid of the energizer.
7
Replace the lid of the energizer.
Connecting an external 12 V battery
(optional)
A connection cable for an external 12 V battery can
be purchased from your local Tru-Test Group
stockist.
Instructions for connecting an external 12 V battery
to an energizer are supplied with the connection
cable.
Warning!
When a polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
sheathed cord is used to connect the energizer
to an external battery, the equipment must be
located in a shelter and must not be handled
when the ambient temperature is below +5 °C.
Connecting the energizer
The energizer automatically detects whether a 9 V
or 12 V battery is connected.
1
Push the Earth peg fully into firm ground. If
the ground is dry or sandy, performance can
be improved by using a longer 1 m (3'3")
earth stake that can be obtained from your
fencing supplier.
2
Connect the GREEN earth lead from the fence
earth terminal ( ) on the energizer to the
Earth peg.
3
Connect the RED fence lead from the fence
output terminal ( ) on the energizer to the
fence.
4
Make sure there is a good contact. If
necessary, carefully strip the polywire to
expose steel strands in order to provide a
good connection.
Operating the 0.17 J model
energizer
1
To switch on the energizer, turn the rotary
switch clockwise (right) to
2
The energizer will deliver a high voltage pulse
once every 1.5 seconds. The red indicator light
flashes to indicate an output pulse.
3
To switch off the energizer, turn the rotary
switch anti-clockwise (left) to
The red indicator light stops flashing.
Operating the 0.23 J and
0.33 J energizers
There are six operating modes to choose from,
depending on your requirement.
Use the rotary switch to select an operating mode.
