Installation Instructions
Please read before installing
The HQ-HWI-LX Link Translator is an interface that is necessary
when using a HomeWorksR QS (HWQS) processor with
HomeWorksR Illumination (HWI) keypads or contact closures
(HWI-CCO and HWI-CCI). It is also required when using
HomeWorksR QS with H48 Dimmer Interface boards, or Q96
interface boards (for QED shades) if the total cable length
exceeds 50 ft (15 m). Each processor link needs a separate
Link Translator.
The HQ-HWI-LX Link Translator is powered by 24 V- from the
HWQS processor. The HQ-HWI-LX does not provide power to
HWI keypads or H48/Q96 interface boards. For power supply
requirements of the different links, please refer to the appropriate
link/device documentation.
NOTE: Powering HWI devices using 24 V- HWQS power
supplies will result in damage to those devices.
NOTE: A software license (HQ-HWI-KP-SW) is required to
enable use of HWI devices.
NOTE: If you add a HQ-HWI-LX Link Translator on a link with
H48/Q96 Interface boards, a Link Terminator (LT-1 Terminator)
will be required at the farthest interface board from processor.
1. Turn off power to all feeds to the HWI panel.
WARNING – Shock hazard. May result in serious
injury or death. The panel may be fed by multiple
circuits. Locate and lock each supply breaker in the
off position before proceeding.
2. Affix the provided 3MR CommandR strip to the back of the
HQ-HWI-LX Link Translator as shown below.
3. Position the HQ-HWI-LX Link Translator, with the 3MR
CommandR strip, inside the panel where the HWQS processor
is located. As an example, placement of the HQ-HWI-LX Link
Translator in a HWI-PNL-8 panel is shown below.
NOTE: For other panels, placement may vary based on
available space near the HWQS processor.

twisted, shielded IEC PELV/NEC
LutronR cable GRX-CBL-346S-500 may be used.
