n CLINICAL APPLICATION
Canine Distemper is a viral disease that essentially affects puppies
and is caused by a virus of the Paramyxoviridae family. Highly
contagious, the disease spreads by direct contamination via the
respiratory track and is associated with high mortality (up to 50%).
Viral excretion begins 7 days after infection and can persist for
several weeks, during which time clinical signs appear: respiratory
(coughing), ophthalmic (rhinitis, conjunctivitis), and gastrointestinal
(diarrhoea, vomiting), resulting from catarrhal inflammation of
respiratory and digestive epitheliums. In the final stages of the
disease, neurological signs may appear (paresis, ataxia, myoclonia,
meningitis, etc.); such cases are very often fatal.
Canine Distemper induces a wide range of non-spec fic clinical
signs, making diagnosis challenging. However, early diagnosis
and treatment prevents the onset of neurological damage, thus
considerably improving the animal's chances of survival. Speed
Distemper enables the early detection of Canine Distemper, just
after the incubation period when clinical signs are just beginning
to appear.
n PRINCIPLE
Speed Distemper is a rapid qualitative immunoassay, using
immunochromatography, for the detection of distemper virus
antigen in various biological samples in dogs.
For each test, in the sample well, the stained particles of the
