Area of use and operating characteristics
(intended use)
•
The device has been manufactured according
to directive 94/9/EC.
The fan fulfils the requirements of directive 94/9/
EC for equipment and protective systems in areas
subject to explosion hazards. Our EC-Conformity
Declaration accompanies this manual.
•
Areas subject to explosion hazards
The fan is classified in group II, category 2G;
therefore, it is suitable for use in areas subject to
explosion hazards of zones 1 and 2. It is particularly
suitable for suctioning explosive mixtures out of
workspaces of zone 1.
•
Temperatures
Permitted ambient and airstream temperature:
- 20 °C to T
(for T
amb
Minimum ignition temperature of a potentially explo-
sive atmosphere: determined by temperature class
T.. (see the rating plate).
•
Adjustable airflow volume of the fan
The speed of the fan can be reduced by lowering
the motor terminal voltage below the rated voltage
U
. The voltage may be lowered only for the fan's
N
supply frequency. Use a transformer for this. Use
with frequency converters is not permitted. The
speed of fans where U
cannot be adjusted.
•
Deviation for the fan types DZ. 35/2 B E Ex e:
The airflow volume of the fan is not adjustable
The fan may be used only with the voltage U
indicated on the rating plate. The speed of the fan
must not be reduced by lowering the motor
terminal voltage below the rated voltage U
•
Thermal motor protection
The temperature in the fan motor is monitored by
PTC thermistors. The PTC thermistors (terminals 5
and 6 on the terminal box; Fig. 2) must be connected
to an activation system (safety equipment according
to directive 94/9/EC) that continuously disconnects
the fan from power if the temperature is too high.
We recommend the use of the MAICO MVS 6
thermistor-type motor protection system, which is to
, see the rating plate)

be mounted outside of the areas subject to
explosion hazards (label II (2) G).
Parallel operation of several fans on a single
activation system is not permitted.
•
The fan may not be used if solid or liquid materials,
such as paint particles from painting equipment,
can be deposited on the motor.
General safety notes
•
Read the complete instructions carefully before you
mount the fan and put it into operation.
•
Storing the instructions
After assembly, store the instructions of each fan. A
copy of the rating plate can be found on the rear of
the operating instructions. The serial number is
located at the bottom right corner of the rating plate.
•
Obligations of the assembler and the operator
We would like to point out that additional safety
regulations, such as directive 1999/92/EC and
national regulations regarding the prevention of
accidents, must be maintained when assembling
and operating the fan.
•
During assembly, heed the valid installation
regulations, e.g. VDE 0100 and EN 60079-14.
•
MAICO accepts no liability for damages caused by
non-authorised use.
Assembly and commissioning
•
Assembly and commissioning may be carried out
only by skilled electricians trained in explosion
protection.
•
The rotating fan parts have been adjusted at the
factory. Therefore, the device may not be
disassembled. The temporary removal of the termi-
nal box lid during the installation of the device is not
subject to this limitation.
•
For wall fans DZQ and DZS only:
The fan may be attached only to level walls or
N
ceiling surfaces to prevent strain on the wall plate
(DZQ) or the wall ring (DZS).
Before commissioning the fan, the air gap between
.
N
the impeller and the wall plate/ring must be checked
(Fig. 1). It must meet the minimum values according
to Tab. 1 over the entire circumference. Use the
air-gap gauge that is included with the device.
