1 How to Convert a Rackmount Server
to a Deskside Server
This guide provides instructions for removing a Sun™ Enterprise™ 250 server from
a Sun Enterprise Expansion Cabinet, or other EIA-compliant rack enclosure, and
preparing the server for deskside use.
To convert a server from rackmount to deskside use, you need to:
Remove the server from the rack enclosure-page 1-3
Remove the stop bracket and the inner glides from the chassis-page 1-6
Remove the rack-ready side access panel-page 1-8
Install the foot glides or the caster plate assembly-page 1-9
Install the plastic side panels-page 1-11
Install the side access panel-page 1-12
Power on the server-page 1-14
Before You Begin
Verify the rackmounting kit contents-page 1-2
Locate a Phillips #2 screwdriver and a flat-blade screwdriver.
