Operation
Fixing a Stirrer Paddle
The chuck is designed to grip a stirrer shaft up to
a maximum of 13mm diameter. Loosen the jaws
of the chuck by turning clockwise. Place a stirrer
shaft in the chuck and tighten by turning anti
clockwise. The chuck only requires tightening by
hand.
The chuck protective cover is designed for use
with stirrer shafts up to 8mm diameter only. It
grips the top of the shaft preventing ingress of
corrosive materials. If a stirrer shaft with a
diameter greater than 8mm is used, remove the
protective cover before fixing the shaft in the
chuck.
Hollow Spindle (SS20 only)
Model SS20 has a hollow spindle enabling a
stirrer shaft of diameter up to 8mm to be passed
through the Stirrer body and adjusted from the
top. Open the chuck and remove the top
grommet. Feed the shaft through the chuck and
into the Stirrer until it protrudes through the top.
Tighten the chuck as described above.
Using the Stirrer (SS10 & SS20)
Clamp the Overhead Stirrer securely to a stand
and fix a stirrer paddle in the chuck (as described
above). Check that the Stirrer is switched OFF
before inserting the mains cable into the short
flying lead and connecting to the mains
electricity supply. When the supply is available
from the mains, a green light will illuminate on
the front of the Stirrer.
Selecting the Stirring Speed (SS10 & SS20)
Switch the Stirrer ON by the mains on / off
switch. A yellow light will illuminate on the front
of the Stirrer. Rotate the speed control knob to
select the required speed of rotation. A soft start
facility is built into the Stirrer so there will be a
slight delay between selection and rotation.
Overload Protection (SS10 & SS20)
If the load on the Overhead Stirrer is too great a
red warning light on the front of the Stirrer will
illuminate and the power to the motor will be
limited to protect the Stirrer from damage. The
Stirrer will continue to run at the limited speed
until the load is reduced.
2
If there is a danger of overheating the power to
the motor will be further reduced. If the danger
of overheating becomes severe the Stirrer will
stop. The unit must be switched OFF by the
mains on / off switch and allowed to cool before
it can be used again.
Maintenance & Servicing
WARNING: Ensure the unit is
disconnected from the mains electricity
supply before attempting maintenance or
servicing.
Periodically clean the instrument using a damp
cloth and mild detergent solution. Do not use
harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.
Any repairs or replacement of parts MUST
be undertaken by suitably qualified
personnel.
