HOW TO USE
backwards you will change the rotor position either 48° clockwise
or 36° ccw.
Once you have achieved an adequate came lobe position, tighten the
#12-24 bolts and proceed to the exact ignition timing (see below un-
der ignition timing for more detailed description). On Morris Classic
magnetos you will also adjust the retard timing. Both timing posi-
tions of the magneto head will be secured by adjuster screws whose
heads are supported by pieces of spiral spring. Cut fitting pieces
from the furnished spring.
While the engine is running, the magneto head is kept on advanced
timing by means of a spring with two hooks that is located between
the rear mounting bolt and the front adjuster screw.
left: advance timing adjuster screw - right: retard timing adjuster screw
The magneto head is finally fixed by - mounted in this order - a
brass washer, a lock washer and a lock nut on each mounting bolt.
Tighten the lock nuts only far enough to just start compressing the
loch washers. The magneto head must move freely.

Generator Big Twins →1969:
First of all check, if modifications of the engine case are required.
Further installion and adjustment are mainly the same as on Sports-
ter and Sidevalve engines. The magneto it is furnished a pair of
1/4"-20 mounting screws. For OEM cases please use stock hardware.
Adjustment and Maintenance
The magneto requires considerably less maintenance than a conven-
tional breaker point based ignition system. Once correctly adjusted
it should suffice to clean the magneto lid in- and externally once or
twice every year. Morris Classic magnetos also require lubricating
the hex end of the drive ahft and the baseplate with some light grea-
se. In the case that you notice poorer starting or high speed running,
check breaker point gap and timing. If these two are ok, or should
the magneto quit service completely, use a new condensor. There is
no satisfying way to check a condensor for function, so replacement
by a new part is still the simpliest way to go.
Never spray the breaker contact points with contact spray. You will
ruin your set of points. A thin film of contact spray or WD40 on the
outside of the magneto is a good moisture protection.
Breaker Point Gap
Before adjusting the ignition timing, the breaker point gap has al-
ways to be checked and - if not correct - to be adjusted. All Morris
magnetos are adjusted to .015" = 0,4 mm. A badly kicking magneto
can be adjusted to a gap of up to .018" = 0,46 mm, to see if starting
approves. Also exchanging the stock condensor for one with higher
capacity (WW 13-255) will require .018" = 0,46 mm breaker point
gap, to keep the points from burning and to insure correct charging
and discharging of the condensor. The feeler gauge you are using for
breaker gap adjustment must be clean and dry and free of any oily
residues. You do not want to risk proper breaker contact function.
