5. Position the Whirlpool

CAUTION: Risk of product damage. Do not lift or move the whirlpool by the apron or apron braces.
Verify that the apron braces are attached before installing the whirlpool, then lift the whirlpool by the rim
at multiple points.
NOTE: If the whirlpool cannot be directly bonded to the subfloor or if decreased movement is desired,
consider installing an optional mortar cement bed following the "Install a Mortar Cement Bed" steps
below.
NOTE: Keep a liner or drop cloth in place in the bottom of the whirlpool until construction is complete.
Dry fit the whirlpool.
Check the whirlpool to make sure it is level.
If the bath is not level, level using mortar cement following the "Install a Mortar Cement Bed" steps
below, or shim with metal, hardwood, or other durable material. Reposition and shim the bath until
it is aligned with the framing and level.
Mark the height of the whirlpool flange on each walled side.
Remove the whirlpool.
Measure down 11/16" (1.7 cm) from the first mark and make a second mark.
At the second mark, install a brace, a maximum of 54" (137.2 cm) long and 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) thick, for
rim support.
Dry fit the whirlpool and make sure the rim of the whirlpool does not support its weight. Lower
the brace slightly if the weight of the whirlpool rests on the brace.
Remove the whirlpool.
Install the drain and overflow assembly to the whirlpool according to the drain manufacturer's
instructions.
IMPORTANT! Squeaking may develop if the whirlpool is installed over a subfloor other than plywood. In
order to prevent squeaking, place the included pad between the whirlpool and the subfloor and positioned
under the whirlpool supports. Do not use roofing felt.
Position the pad under the whirlpool supports.
Position and adjust the whirlpool until its outside edge is flush with the framing.
Verify that the whirlpool is level and well supported by the subfloor.
Install a Mortar Cement Bed (Optional)
Remove the whirlpool and pad from the alcove.
