The TWIST gas detector detects methane and GLP (propane and butane) gases,
providing acoustic and visual warning signals of the presence of gas in the
environment and energising a relay circuit.
INSTALLATION
The installation and the removal of the TWIST service must be carried out by
specialised personnel and this also applies to the gas installation. It shall comply
with all installation regulations covered by EN-60335-1.
The TWIST methane detector should be installed at a minimum distance of 30 cm
from the ceiling and the TWIST GLP at a minimum distance of 30 cm from the floor
and both at a distance of between one and four metres from the gas apparatus
(cooker or heater etc). A TWIST unit must be installed in each room that is to be
monitored.
TWIST are calibrated to detect up to 10% of the Lower Explosion Limit (LEL),
which can vary in accordance with environmental conditions but, under no
circumstances can it exceed 15% of this limit during the first four years. After this
period of time, it is obligatory for the unit to be adjusted or sent to the factory for
device replacement. For this reason, the unit is supplied with a label that should
indicate the date it was installed by authorised personnel.
The TWIST gas detector must not be installed:
- Directly over the sink or gas apparatus.
- In small premises in which the following are employed: Alcohol, ammonia,
spray cans with gas and substances with volatile solvents.
- In poorly ventilated environments
- Near walls and obstacles that could slow down the gas flow or close to exits
or extractor fans that could distort the air flow.
- In environments in which the temperatures is below 10ºC or higher than
40ºC, with high humidity or vapours.
Installation requires the removal of the screw on the side of the unit, which enables
the cover to be lifted by turning it to the left. Secure the base to the wall using the
supplied wall plugs and screws.

The detector relay has voltage-free contacts and a breaking power of 3(1) A 250

VALVE
The electro-valve must be installed in the gas piping outside the room being
monitored because the TWIST unit protection would be quite useless if a leak was
to occur between the apparatus to be monitored and the electro-valve position.
Two or more detectors can be connected to a single electro-valve being using the
following wiring diagrams:

OPERATION
The TWIST gas detector has three indicator LEDs on its front panel:
Green LED: (ON). Indicates that the device is receiving power.
Yellow LED (Failure). Indicates that the gas sensor is damaged. If the
TWIST unit suffers any damage, it will indicate incorrect operation by
switching the yellow LED permanently on and activating a two-second
intermittent acoustic alarm.
Red LED: (OFF). Indicates that the gas concentration measured in the air
exceeds the alarm threshold. If this should occur, the unit will switch on the
red LED and twenty seconds later the buzzer will sound and the relay will
energise.
SWITCH-ON DELAY
The TWIST catalytic sensor has a warm-up period of approximately one minute
prior to correct operation and the green LED will flash and all detection functions
will be disabled during this time.
OPERATION VERIFICATION
Once the unit is installed, correct operation can be checked by pressing the circuit
TEST button for at least two seconds. The red led will turn on, the acoustic alarm
will sound and the relay will energise for five seconds. The electro-vale requires
resetting after this verification.
PERIODIC TESTING
It is recommended that periodic testing of general unit operation be performed by
authorised personnel at least once a year.
