Features
L.U.C.A.S ALPHA Subwoofer
1 Input Left and Input Right
(Combination XLR / 1/4" jack ports)
L.U.C.A.S ALPHA is equipped with separate left and
right channel inputs that serve to connect a mixer.
Connecting cords: Connect the cords routing the
signal from your mixer (master left/right, line out, or
a similar circuit) to the balanced inputs using a mic
cord equipped with XLR connectors. Ensure the XLR
connectors' pin assignments are as follows:
1= ground, 2= +, 3= -.
You can also use a 1/4" stereo jack plug to route
signals via balanced circuits. Use a mono 1/4" plug
to patch in unbalanced signals.

The XLR port's pin assignments comply with the
international IEC 268-12 standard. In accordance
with this standard, pin 1 is the ground, while
pin 2 carries the positive signal and pin 3 the
negative signal. The stereo 1/4" jack's tip carries the
positive signal, its ring carries the negative signal,
and the ground circuit is routed via the sleeve.
Inserting an unbalanced mono plug, automatically
engages the input's unbalanced operating mode.

2 Through Left, Trough Right
Connecting cords: Use this parallel output to route
the line signal (left or right) to other systems,
outboard components, monitor power amps, etc.,
via XLR cords.
3 Limiter LEDs
Much like rev counters, these LEDs indicate the
active system's operating status. For more info, read

4 Gain
Handling: Turn the Gain knob all the way down
(counterclockwise) before switching the system on.
Ensure the system is connected to the satellites
and all other connected components are on before
powering up. Be sure to switch on the connected
mixer as well as all signal sources connected to it,
for example, keyboards, amps, effects, and so forth.
After you power the system up, set the Gain knob to
the 12 o'clock position (0 dB). This is the preferred
level if you have connected a mixer.
Note: If you connect a CD player or a keyboard di-
rectly to the system, you may not be able to achieve
peak volume at this setting. If this is the case, twist
the Gain knob to the far right. If you hear distortion
or a saturated signal, first check the signal sources
and, if possible, reduce the output signal level there.
If you are unable to turn down the level of the signal
sent to L.U.C.A.S ALPHA at the signal source, adjust
it using the Gain knobs (see also Tips and Tricks).

5 Balance
Handling: Twist the Balance knob to the left or right
to adjust the relative balance of levels between the
left and right channels.
6 DDO™ controller
Handling: The Select button switches between the
two system presets CD and LIVE.
The two color LEDs indicate the currently active
system preset (CD = blue / Live = yellow).
7 Subwoofer Level
Handling: When this knob is set to the 12 o'clock
position, the subwoofer's and the satellite's respec-
tive volumes are matched, ensuring the bass and
mid/high ranges (via satellite) are rendered in ba-
lanced musical proportion. If desired, twist the Sub-
woofer Level knob to the left to cut the subwoofer's
level by as much as -12 dB and to the right to boost
it by up to +6 dB.
8 Ground
Ground lift button for separating the signal and
chassis ground in case of humming noises.
In the event of low-frequency hum, engage the
Ground switch. If this doesn't solve the problem,
check for defects all cords connected to L.U.C.A.S
ALPHA as well as all cords routing signals to the
mixing console (see also Tips and Tricks). Engaging
this button severs the ground circuit.
9 Sensitivity
This switch boosts input sensitivity. Setting it to
-6 dB rather than the standard +4 dB setting boosts
the input level 10 dB. For the widest dynamic range
in live applications, we recommend setting the
switch to +4 dB.
Recommendation: Using a professionell mixer, the
input sensitivity should be set to +4 dB. This lets you
take advantage of the system's full dynamic range
and helps to avoid system overloads.
Using a signal with a lower output level the input
sensitivity should be set to -6 dB.
