Problem
Pump fails to prime or
primes slowly
Reduced pressure or
capacity
Poor or little capacity
Probable Causes
Leaks in the suction line.
Loose gasket connection due to shrink-
age of the gasket.
Collapsed or clogged suction line.
Not enough water in the casing for prim-
ing.
Suction lift is too great.
Partially collapsed or clogged suction
hose.
Clogged impeller.
Leaks in the suction line.
Strainer or end suction hose is not prop-
erly submerged.
Suction line is improperly installed,
resulting in air pockets in the line.
Suction lift is too great.
Worn parts, such as the impeller or the
pump casing.
Improper impeller rotation.
Corrective Action
Repair leaks in suction line.
Replace gasket. Refer to
"Replacement Parts" on page
Inspect suction line. Clean or replace as needed.
Add additional water and repeat priming process.
Relocate the pump closer to the water source.
Inspect suction line. Clean or replace as needed.
Inspect the impeller. Replace if necessary.
Repair leaks in suction line.
Ensure strainer or end of suction hose is fully submerged. Add
float switches as indicated. Refer to

Verify impeller rotates in counter-clockwise direction as seen
facing the pump from the front of the casing. Check wiring to
ensure positive and negative wiring is connected as shown on
the diagram located on the motor.
