ZERO ADJUSTMENTS WITH A SETTING RING
OR MASTER GAUGE:
• The setup for the bore gauge is the same as that for actual
measurement.
• Diameter (e) is maximized when intersection (A) is
perpendicular to the axis of the objective cylinder, thus the
bore gauge will take the minumum reading. In contrast,
diameter (e) is minimized at intersection (B), which includes
the cylinder axis, so that the bore gauge will take the
maximum reading.
• Therefore, when using the bore gauge, adjust the moving
direction of the contact point along (a) on intersection (A),
and along (e) on intersection (B). See Figure 4.
• To adjust the datum point to diameter (e), search for a
position where the bore gauge reading is minimized by
tilting the bore gauge back and forth. See Figure 5. Finally
adjust the datum point by turning the bezel unit, it is aligned
with the indicator hand, which represents the obtained
diameter. See Figure 6.
ZERO SETTING WITH AN OUTSIDE MICROMETER:
• Mount the micrometer firmly on the stand, then set the micrometer opening to an appropriate size. Insert the bore
gauge in the micrometer opening and find out the position where it indicates the minimum value, adjust the datum
point by rotating the bezel. Skill is required to adjust the datum point using the micrometer as it is not automatically
set to the proper position by the guide.
NOTE:
• Hold the micrometer vertically so that the micrometer head is facing downward.
• DO NOT clamp the micrometer while performing this adjustment.
