Operating Instructions
Connecting a mains device
• Do not connect loads greater than the rated maximum continuous power
output of the inverter (see specifications)
• If the appliance to be connected does not have a wattage (W) indication,
the wattage can be calculated by multiplying the amperage (A) by 230
• Some devices may require a much higher starting current than their
rated average power consumption. This inverter is designed to allow for
such inductive devices that have high current demands on first switch
on. If a device will not start at all it is likely it has exceeded this capacity
and is not compatible with the inverter
• The inverter features a 230V Universal Mains Socket (2) compatible with
UK, European, American and Australian plugs. It will also be compatible
with other countries and regions which adopt these standards for plugs.
It is important to note the inverter must only be used with devices
compatible with 230V AC 50Hz and if you are using a non-UK device with
this inverter, you must check its voltage and frequency are compatible
Warning: Any device fitted with a American 2-pin plug must be checked to
make sure it is compatible with 230V 50Hz AC, as most are only compatible
with 120V 60Hz AC. If you have any doubt about its compatibility DO NOT
USE
Warning: At 160W the inverter will draw 12-15A at 12V, so a typical, fully
charged vehicle battery of 80Ah will last 5-6hrs. If you use the inverter
without the vehicle's engine operating, you may discharge the battery
and prevent the vehicle from starting. Ideally the inverter should only be
used when the engine is running unless you limit how long you use the
inverter off the vehicle's battery. It is recommended that the vehicle engine
should be started and run once every hour to 'top up' the battery using the
vehicle's alternator, allowing 10-15 minutes approximately for every hour
of use at full capacity. For a more precise figure consult the manufacturer
of your vehicle. To start a vehicle the battery must be in a high charge state.
Using the inverter incorrectly will prevent your vehicle from starting.
Notes:
• The inverter may shut down as the engine is started due to the high
electrical load generated by the vehicle starter motor
• This inverter is equipped with a low voltage alarm and automatic low
battery shutdown. If the supply voltage drops to 10.5V the low battery
alarm will sound. This indicates that the battery is in a discharged state
and requires charging. If the supply voltage is allowed to drop to 10V,
the inverter will automatically cut out. To restart the inverter, switch off,
charge the vehicle battery, and switch back on

Troubleshooting

Possible cause
Low battery voltage
Inverter in thermal shutdown
12V connector not properly inserted
Internal fuse 'blown'
Starting load of appliance is too great
Poor electrical connections
Inadequate power supply
Inverter is overloaded
Input voltage is below 11V
Inverter is located too close to aerial
Aerial cable is not shielded
• This inverter uses modified sine wave output which simulates AC voltage.
Although compatible with most devices, some may not be compatible. If
the product makes abnormal noises or functions differently to normal, do
not use with this inverter
• The AC output of an inverter cannot be accurately measured with
a normal multi-meter. The multi-meter will read 20-30V less than
expected. This does not indicate a fault with the unit
Connecting a USB device
The inverter has a built in USB Socket (3) for powering or recharging USB
devices. Please note the maximum current in the specification which should
not be exceeded.
Maintenance
Fuse Replacement
To replace the fuse of the inverter unscrew the Cigarette Plug Positive
Connector (5) and remove the fuse. Only replace with a fuse of exactly the
same rating as fitted.
Cleaning
• Disconnect the inverter from the power supply before cleaning
• Keep your inverter clean. Always clean dust or particles away and never
allow ventilation holes to become blocked. Use a soft brush, or dry cloth
to clean the inverter, if possible blow through the ventilation holes with
clean, dry, compressed air
Disposal
• Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic
equipment, with household waste
• Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct
way to dispose of tools
Suggested remedy
Charge or replace battery
Allow inverter to cool before switching on
Check connector is secure and use tension switch if required
Replace fuse
Device not compatible
Check/clean electrical connections
Check 12V system capacity and battery condition
Reduce load
Charge or replace battery
Move inverter/aerial
Use shielded cable
