ring during assembly. Cut loose ends of wire off flush with end of conductor.
3. Attach contact to cable. When the strain relief wire is used as in step #2,
position it in the cable hole opposite the set screws. Wrap copper shim around
cable as needed. Tighten set
screws to 100 in. lbs. of torque. If
contact is crimp type, crimp should
be made with the equipment listed
in the following table.
4. To assemble contact in insulator, coat
cable jacket and contact with lubricant,
as in step D-1. Using a mating contact
or Com-A-Long, part number A200020-
3 or A20020-4, line up external locking
pin on the male contact with arrow
marked "Mate" on raised boss on the
insulator. Place contact assembly
against a firm surface or in a vise and
push insulator over contact until
locking pin snaps into the internal
locking ring molded into the insulator. When connectors are properly
assembled, they are automatically locked in position.
E. Contact Removal:
1. To remove contact from insulator,
clamp the mating connector (never
the Cam-Lok connection end) or a
Com-A-Long in a vise. Lock the
insulated contact into the clamped
contact. Because insulators fit cable
jackets tightly, use Spraylube
between cable jacket and insulator
for easier disassembly.
2. Insert a 3/16" wide screwdriver blade
or removal tool, part number
Al00632. Under front end of insulator
between the contact and sleeve,
directly under the arrow marked
"Mate." Push screwdriver blade into
insulator as far as it will go.
