Introduction
This document provides compatibility information, operating steps, and specifications for the
MF-Millipore™ (mixed esters of cellulose nitrate and cellulose acetate) family of sterile
®
Millex
filter units. The Millex filter unit's bi-directional support of the filter membrane en-
ables users to filter aqueous solutions in either direction, forward (from the syringe into the
container) or backward (from the container into the syringe). Millex filter units remove mi-
croorganisms, particles, precipitates, and undissolved powders larger than the membrane's
rated pore size. Typical research laboratory applications include the clarification and/or ster-
ile filtration of protein solutions, tissue culture media, additives, buffers, and water. These
single-use filter units consist of a membrane filter sealed in an acrylic housing. They are non-
pyrogenic and non-toxic.
PLEASE NOTE:
!
Outside of the U.S. and Japan, Millex-GS/HA/AA filter units may also be used for direct patient
care and pharmacy admixture applications. In the hospital pharmacy, Millex filter units can be
used to sterile filter or clarify small volumes of protein pharmaceuticals, diagnostic imaging agents,
chemotherapeutics, aqueous solutions, or water during admixture preparation. Direct patient care
applications include sterilization and/or particulate removal from epidural and other liquid anes-
thetics as well as from irrigation solutions used in ophthalmic, otic, and other surgical procedures.
