Digital Express Thermometer SC 28 flex with
flexible measuring point and fever alarm
(Reer article number 9850)
Instructions for use
Special features
The SC 28 flex
is a maximum thermometer, i.e. the highest temperature is
displayed after only 10 seconds. The most recent measured value is always
saved.
Safety information
 The SC 28 flex is suitable only for measuring human body temperatures.
The thermometer contains small parts (batteries, etc) which could be swallowed
by small children. Please keep the thermometer and its batteries out of the reach
of small children. If the battery or other parts are swallowed you should seek
medical help immediately.
The enclosed batteries may not be recharged or reactivated by other methods,
may not be dismantled, thrown into fires or short-circuited. Batteries must be
disposed of properly. Suitable methods for the disposal of batteries include
returning them to the place of purchase or disposal in communal collection points.
Protect the SC 28 flex from direct sunshine and temperatures above 50°C.
Never drop the SC 28 flex, do not bend or open it (with the exception of the
battery compartment for battery replacement).
Operating manual
Press the I/O button to switch on. A short signal tone shows that the device is in
the "switched on" condition. A segment test takes place simultaneously (checks all
display segments and carries out an internal function test (see under "Function
test")).
After this, if the temperature measured by the temperature sensor is less than
32°C, the display shows an "L" and "°C".
After around one second, the "°C" starts to blink. The „L" stands for low (less than
32°C).
The current temperature is continuously displayed during measurement, and the
"°C" blinks during the entire measurement time. The measurement is completed
after around 10 seconds.
- 1 -
If the measurement is taken orally or rectally, the approximate final temperature is
shown after about 10 seconds and changes only marginally after this time. A
measurement period of between five and 10 minutes must be observed for the
underarm measurement method. The signal tone can be sounded several times
during this period. Since the contact between the temperature sensor and the armpit
is not as good as those for oral and rectal measurements, the temperature rise is
slower which causes this effect.
After the measurement is completed, the temperature value measured remains in
the display until the SC 28 flex is switched off. To turn the device off after use, press
the I/O button briefly. The signal tone will again be sounded. If the device is not
switched off, a signal tone is sounded after around 8 minutes and the device then
switches off automatically.
Fever alarm
If the temperature measured is 37.5°C or higher, a fever alarm is sounded (short
double beeps for about 4 seconds) and the LC display is flashing. Four long beeps
indicate that measurement is completed and the temperature is below 37.5°C.
Display of last measured value
If you keep the I/O button pressed for longer than three seconds, the last measured
value will be shown in the display. As soon as you release the I/O button, the device
is ready to take measurements.
Function test
The thermometer is checked for correct functioning automatically every time it is
switched on. All segments are displayed, and then L°C. If a failure (measurement
inaccuracy) is recognised, "ERR" (Error) is shown in the display.
Measured value deviation
The measured temperatures will always deviate, depending on the measurement
location. This is normal, and caused by deviations in temperature distribution on the
human body. You could, for example, measure a rectal temperature of 36.6°C, an
oral temperature of 36.1°C and an underarm value of 35.6°C.
Measurement locations
In the mouth (oral)
Small temperature variations in the mouth between measurements are normal.
These are caused by varying temperature distribution within the mouth. Try to
place the thermometer in one of the two heat
pockets under the tongue, to the left and right of
the tongue root. The measurement sensor must
have good contact with the tissue. The subject
should close the mouth and breathe normally
through the nose so that the measured result is
not affected by breathed air.
Measuring period:
approx. 10 seconds.
In the anus (rectal)
This is the safest method. It is particularly suitable for infants and small children.
Guide the thermometer point carefully 2 - 3 cm into the anus. Measuring period:
approx. 10 seconds.
Under the arm (axillary)
From a medical viewpoint this type of measurement leads to inaccurate values. It is
therefore unsuitable for carrying out exact measurements.
Changing the battery
As soon as the
symbol appears in the display, the battery has run out and
requires replacement. Always replace the discharged battery with one of the same
type. To do this, proceed as follows:
Pull the cover off the battery compartment. The battery can now be accessed.
Remove the used battery with the help of a pointed object (pincers, small
screwdriver etc.) and put the new battery (LR 41 or SR41) in. Please make sure it is
the right way round. You can purchase batteries from jewellers or electrical shops.

Measurement checks
Checking the accuracy of the SC 28 flex is not necessary in most cases. If you
require a measurement check (at your expense), please send the SC 28 flex to our
customer service address. Please make sure it is well-packaged and that the
correct postage stamps are applied.
Cleaning and disinfection
Please only use an alcohol pad. Each pharmacy sells alcohol pads.
We recommend the use of Mucocit-F2000 or HelipurHplus to disinfect the
device during use in medical facilities. Both are effective against all hospital-typical
pathogens and can be purchased from any dispensing chemist.
Microbial contamination
Because a hundred percent disinfection is not possible under conditions at home, it
is urgently recommended that every patient should use their own fever thermometer.
Guarantee
We give a guarantee period of 2 years from the date of purchase. We guarantee
perfect design of this article. We will rectify all material or manufacturing errors
during the guarantee period. If, contrary to expectations, defects are found, please
send the device back to our customer service department. Please enclose the proof
of purchase and a description of the defect so that the problem can be rectified as
soon as possible. The guarantee excludes damages caused by improper handling,
related to the battery or to the packaging.
Referenced norms
The device has been certified in accordance with DIRECTIVE 93/42/EU of 14th
June 1993 relating to medicinal products. The clinical thermometer SC 17 complies
with the requirements of European norm EN 12470-3:2000.
Disposal note
The disposal of batteries is regulated. Spent batteries are collected at collection
points provided by battery dealers and the communities. Dispose of the
thermometer monitor as prescribed. i.e., at a collection point for electrical scrap.
Dispose of the thermometer monitor as prescribed. i.e., at a collection point for
